mcjulie-o, i don't think the lydiasylvestry version has any seams at all--it looks to me like an ordinary length of knit fabric (which comes in a tube already--that is how it is made), cut to have extra long ties.

see, this is my whole point--i keep saying this over and over--there are SO many ways to accomplish this.  the only requirement is that there be a body section big enough to cover the torso down to at least the thigh, and ties long enough to manipulate.  other than that--anything goes.

BTW, this design goes back at least to the 70's that i am aware of and probably earlier--i'll try to find references.

well, i had a spare hour and some spare fabric and i made one like the monif c. dress.  i modeled it for vinotinto a few minutes ago and got her approval.  Cheesy  i'll put together a short tutorial and some images later tonight.

teaser:  i love it.  i'm going to make bunches of this dress.

I saw Rostitchery's version of the dress just a few minutes ago (we work together) - it's FABULOUS and super versatile.  She and I were talking about how you could dress it way up or way down depending on the color of the dress and how you tie it.  Ooooh y'all are gonna love it!  Aren't you jealous that I got to see it first?!?! Kiddding, kidding.   Grin

Wowsers! Nice going, rostitchery!

You turned this out in an HOUR??!!!

Mind giving us the lowdown on it? Fabric type? Amount of fabric needed? Length of the ties? Width of ties? Cut in a circle, or are those gathers? Did you hem it?

Way to go! I want to see more!

thanx mcjulie-o, i'll put together a tutorial tomorrow, with lots more pictures--i'm hoping i'll get to make another one or two of these before the weekend.

yes, one hour--there's only one seam.

I can't wait for this tute - that dress looks fabulous on you!

How do you do it - whipping something up that great in an hour, writing tutorials, updating your website, making costumes, etc while looking after a toddler??!!  When do you sleep??!!  You're amazing!
