this is very nice, and the lacing gape problem is easily fixed.  Instead of lacing it and tieing at the top or bottom with a bow, look up the traditional way to lace a corset.  The strands are gathered in the middle, and are pulled more evenly, resulting in no gape and better utilization of the boning, just google corset lacing. it will make a world of difference in the fit of the garment.
