OK so, I searched and read a thread about 1920s parties and got some good ideas there, but I was wondering if anyone had anything to suggest for my friend's 21st birthday party with a prohibition theme?

So far we are gonna make flapper dresses out of tshirts (from Generation T) and dim the lights. We were going to decorate with bottles with humorous lables printed and glued on.

Any suggestions for the following:

Food

Cocktail Ideas

Labels for the bottles

misc decorations

Thanks for your help!!

Is this a party with both guys and gals?

I'd have like lots of sparkly breaded strans hanging everywhere or even better drapped around a mini-chandiler.

Food, do simple finger foods, tapas etc. Nothing too heavy.

The charleston dance was very popular then, so you could put out some charleston chew bars out, or like do some google-research or popular 1920's candies. Thats what I would have out. Of course some healthy-vegan options on the side too!  Wink

You could also have like lots of old colorful bottles at decorations around the house............li ne upa bunch from your salvation army (cleaned of course!) and put christmas tree lights in them so they glow. Very cool indeed!

hope that helps!!!!!

Budget magazine ran an article on how to throw a prohbition party before they died and took my subscription money with them. Anyways, you might be able to find a back issue (it had some good ideas) at the library. I can't say the actual month but it would have been 2005.

You could set up a table to play card games at, not necessarily just poker, but also Gin Rummy or whatever floats your boat. Gin seems to be the favored liquor at the time but not everyone likes it, so you could serve other 'old fashioned' drinks like Sidecars and anything else that looks good in a martini glass.
