The yarn I used is kind of unusual but I'm happy with how the shawl turned out.  It's very simple - just a big triangle knit in garter stitch on 20 mm. needles.  It wasn't the easiest yarn to work with and it was my first time on such huge needles but it knit up pretty quickly.  It's surprisingly warm too.  Just what I need for cool summer nights.

I used Bernat's Bling Bling.  It's a synthetic yarn but incredibly soft.

Thanks for all the nice comments.  If I hear from other Craftsters that my project turned out okay, I'm more likely to actually wear it out in public.
