Hey everyone! I'm so excited we finally have a board just for polymer clay! It's about time! Anyway, here are three eggs that I covered in clay (in a ceramic dish I made  Smiley) and the one in the middle has seed beads inside so it's a little egg shaker that I use for my vocal jazz group

I hope you like them; comments are appreciated as always!

Ooo, love the colors of the Skinner blend spiral cane slices... almost like a Blast From the Past for me.

And the Balinese Filigree looks good too... that's so much fun to do, if a bit tedious... thinking of it as "active mediatation" helps, I think  Grin.   Did you use a pen cap, a tube, or something else to put the dots in??

I used a pen cartrage to make the dots. I love doing the filligree eggs more than the ones covered in cane slices. And yes it IS sort of like a meditation :-)

These are so cute! I love how the one has a dual purpose. Looking cute as well as being a musical instrument.

I know a couple who make paper mache egg rattles that are awesome, but I would have never thought of this!! What a cool idea, with great results!

If any of you would like to make egg shakers from clay, here's some stuff from my site and some things that can be used:

Margaret Regan introduced me to "acoustic eggs". She puts sand, beads, or other materials that rattle inside the eggshell before covering. Another wonderful sensory reaction.

....Mary Lyon's lesson on covering an egg, stamping with powders, then filling with small beads, BBs or small plastic pellets ... . ..she says organic materials such as rice and unpopped popcorn may also be used but don't produce as crisp a sound as manmade products or other manmade bits
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/nh_other/article/0,2025,DIY_14147_2269547,00.html

.....I make tiny balls of clay (& bake them)... then put in 5 or 6 in through the drain hole (on a raw covered ? egg) ... then close up that end the same as the other end....(tip: roll raw clay covered egg around in your hands and on a surface to smooth it)... pierce thru clay where the drain hole is with the needle tool to release the air while it bakes ...bake
There's more about covering eggs with clay in general on the rest of the page:

If you cover a papier mache egg, the covering and filling work pretty much the same way.  If you cover a plastic egg (the rubbery type), the egg will shrink inside the clay while baking and rattle in a quieter way.

There are other ways of making rattles (tiny to big) with polymer clay though besides using eggs on this page if you want to check them out:
