#2 Put a zipper pocket in your Jordy Bag! (second tutorial)

This is the first version of my inside pocket zipper tutorial.

I call it “the professional one” because it looks like a “professional”  inside pocket, but maybe it is a little bit more complicated than the other methods I use. Maybe.
Let’s start

1)What you see is the lining unsewn and the zipper. You must trace that line with those “inverted” arrows with a pencil. Make sure that the total length (from A to B) is equal to the length of the zipper (the useful part of it).

2)You cut following the drawing and you fold the fabric to the wrong side, this way

3)Pin and baste the zipper at the place that you created. The hole should be perfectly fitting.

4)Now create the bag for your pocket. I shouldn’t tell you how to do this  (ok, you never know…  ::)two rectangles or one long rectangle folded in half,  right side together, sew three sides of four leaving one open and unsewn)

5)Make sure that the sides of the open part of the pocket bag are not completely sewn to the end. You’ll understand why.

6)Now you have the lining and the pocket bag on the right side. Put the bag inside the opening of the zipper as shown in the picture.

7)On the wrong side, pin and baste the pocket to the zipper (and lining of course). The picture should be explicative.

8)Now sew. Always leave the pocket bag where it is so that you’re sure that you’re not sewing it wrong (or you could just close the opening!)

9)Now turn the pocket bag on the back –I mean let it pass through the zipper… oh well You get it!

10)This is the wrong side of the pocket –and of the lining…

Now sew the lining to the bag…and that’s all!
I will post two easier tutorials. But I don’t think this is so difficult anyway. The pics that you see are the ones of my first ever attempt to this kind of inside pocket. So, if I did it…

dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway, do you have to have a zipper foot to put a zipper in?  I have an ancient Singer and it didn't come with any extra feet.

I use my zipper foot, yes.
I think that the normal foot is not sp impossible to use. Mhhh. I don't know.
Probably I would hand-sew the zipper.

if you have a vintage singer its probably a slant shank foot, which you can purchase for under 10 dollars at any decent sewing repair store, just say I need a slant shank zipper foot, it shouldnt be more then 10.00, do not pay any more then 10!

as a seamstress for over 20 years, all I can say are feet are you friend, I have probably 30 diffeent feet but the 3, I must have are a zipper foot, for zippers, piping making your own piping etc., a roller foot for sewing anything thats a pain in the ass, like velvets, satins, vinyls and upholstery fabrics. and a walking foot, for when your sewing layers of fabic, it makes the pressure of the foot and the feeddogs work together so you can sew multiple layers without shifting, and if you love applying bias binding tou your edges a binding foot rocks! I got mine from nancys online. A bias binder sews the binding on all at once, I can bind a kingsized quilt in like 10 minutes with it and you dont have to pin the binding on!
