So we just re-melted the smaller thicker one on a flat piece of foil then wrapped it around a bowl while it was still hot.  We wanted it to be more bowl like.  It turned out cool but I kind of liked some of the chunkiness and now there is hardly any chunkiness left.  We also have some foil folded into the bowl that we are having trouble getting out. I see tweezers in our future! We decided we need to find a happy medium where we get a bowl but retain some of the bead chunks.

If you read this thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=16739653.0 you'll see that my whole family is now into this! My husband (Kappy) and my mom (craftygram) have both posted in that thread!  My mom.....who I THOUGHT would be anti-bead melting because she's a stained glass artist is in fact going to the craft store on the corner to buy "those cheap plastic beads." My dad is even psyched because he thinks, after a post work discussion based on the posts on the other page involving a blow torch, that this craft may just involve a blow torch!

Oh ya, we are one crafty family!  It's a good thing we live about 300 miles apart or we'd be dangerous!!

This is so cool!
I really want to try this out!
This may sound stupid, but I'm just wondering if the beads stick to the bowl, or how does it work?
Any advice on making these?

Great designs!

Great designs!

Ours did not stick but we are having a bit of trouble with the aluminium foil we used the second time we melted the thicker of our two bowls. There are a few bits of it left but I think if we pick at it maybe use some tweezers we will be able to get it off. Heck, if not we just put it in the oven again melt it again and pick out the foil while it is all gooey!  OOOORRR....... maybe mix it into the goo and have a little sparkle.... hmmmm now there's an idea!

There are all kinds of tips in these threads:

Here's a lamp shade with lots of melting beads tips:

PinkyK thank you SO much for posting those threads!!  Smiley  I was just going to hunt down all the links, and now I don't have to!  Woot!

If you use metal or glass, there shouldnt be a problem with removing the finished piece - once it cools.  The beads retract as they cool & the bowl should "pop" free from the mold bowl.

I used foil when I did the lampshade & had to peel some of the foil off with tweezers in a few places, because when I molded it to the original dome shade, it creased & folded some of my bead creation.  It wasn't a horribly big problem, but it was a little annoying.  Smiley

Ahh.. thanks!!  Smiley  I like the coasters!  We have coasters... but the room they are in we hardly ever even go in.  LOL, so I guess it's more of decoration than anything.

Did you make anything yet?  I wanna see!

Here are a few more misc. things... a little tin, a spoon holder & a suncatcher:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=16743679.0
