Bowl o' melted beads :)
«
on:
June 12, 2006 02:25:19 AM »
Here's my version of tiffe1023's
melted bead bowl
! Lots of fun, lots of toxic fumes... lol...
I used a 2 1/2 cup metal mixing bowl (5 1/2").
It took quite a bit of time to bake...rather than 15 minutes, I think it may have taken closer to 45 - 60 mins.
I used a wooden shiskabob skewer to flatten down some of the "points" on the top periodically during baking, so the top isn't as sharp.
I used triangular beads & threw in some seed beads.
Originally I set it up to have a glass bead in the center, but after the first baking it popped out.
So I slapped some green beads in its place & rebaked.
Before it was baked...
Cooling... see how far the sides melted down? Geezie!
My addictions to melting things...

Dang, thats cool! Hehe! I was just looking at some of those beads in the store, the other day, thinking about how many of them I had at home, and wondering what I could do with them!

i like the way you use triangle shaped beads (I saw those too, they were on a different asle then the circular ones) They look waaaaaay easier to stack to make designs!! I love it..
I'm an impatient crafter though... Hopefully I can't wait long enough for it to make.

Thanks! All my triangle beads were inherited from my gramma's craft stash when she passed away quite a few years ago. She was the queen of crafting... I think I'm making her proud, hehe!
They ARE easier to stack; they fit like little puzzle pieces up the side of the bowl.
I'm trying to make a lamp shade right now... it's baking!!
I don't think I am going to do any work today, I'm too excited about beading. I'm gonna have to make a bead run at some point in time...I definitely prefer the translucent beads to solid colors (thus far).

Got two bowls cooling!
Muhahahahahahah
One I used BIG 'ol chunky things meant for flora arrangements. The other I used normal small faceted plastic beads...$1.96 a bag at WalMart.
Once they are cooled I'll post pictures.

Here are my bead bowls!
For the first one I used a small bowl and these crazy plastic chunks:
Here are the globs in the bowl just out of the oven:
But in the end it turned out REALLY cool!
I'm going to use it as a candy dish in my cube!
Here's another view....
you can really see how thick it is in this view.
On the second one I used small generic faceted beads
.
Here it is in the bowl:
Here's the finished product!
I think it will make a really cool serving dish.
It came out REALLY pretty but not as deep as I would have liked.
If any of you have any tips for making the beads stay on the walls so it will come out to be more like a bowl, I'd LOVE to hear them!
I have enough beads to make some for friends and I bought three metal "bowls" in a set at WalMart this afternoon so I'm all set for bead melting!

Ahhh!! SO pretty! Those colored chunks are neat-o!
I've kind of abandoned using the metal bowl idea because I couldn't get them to stay up on the sides. I'm using the technique that I do on the lampshade, which is to use a flat, round pie pan, then transfer to a metal or plastic bowl very quickly as a final mold.
