recently, while rumaging through my closet, I came across an old project of mine.  This was part of my final assignment for art, which I took first term freshman year (I am now finishing my junior year).  The assignment was to do various creative pieces based on a visit to a museum, and this was the only actual art piece I did.  (Most of the assignments were written, I would have much rather done more art)

As this was done about 2 1/2 years ago, it is a bit juvenile (and not very good), but it really represents who I was at the time, so I felt it worthy of showing off.

bright and colorful, just like my personality (most of the time).  The handle wrapped with a tshirt strip was my homage to DIY and craftster.

a bit of contrast?

inside, top:

ripped up playbills and headshots, because I am an actress.
a mirror, so I can see myself, but distorted (with pink hairspray actually) as it was a confusing period in my life (which isn't really over).

the most complex part, but I won't go too in depth.
top right: a homage to my Jewish heritage, and also to the time of year (I made the box over winter vacation)
middle, top: a small cow resting in a nest of my own hair.  I had an obsession with cows at the time (I still do, but not as much) and I had also just cut off 12 inches of my hair- a big part of me for a long time.  I donated the ponytail to locks of love, but kept a small portion to go in the box.
middle, middle:  this is hard to see, but it is actually spikes coming out of pink, shimmery ribbon.  I was very style distorted at 14, goth one day and girly the next, and this compartment shows how I felt.
left, top: a random collection of things that mean something special to me.  Ticket stubs from shows I was in (theater again) my old library card (a love of books), pennies (now who doesn't love money?), and other items that were part of inside jokes or held a special place in my heart.
bottom:  a tape cassette, reperesenting my love of music.

anyway, that's that.  It's a bit silly I know, but I felt inspired to post it.  As it's very old, criticism probably isn't that useful, but feel free to give that, along with comments, or anything else Smiley

Maybe I'll try to dig up some more work from that class.  I think I did some pretty interesting stuff.

Oh, and if anyone was wondering, I received an A+ on that project and 100 in the class.  Oh, those were the days, eh?

This reminds me of the suitcases the girl in the book "White Oleander" makes. Good job!

Ok, and I just don't get written assignments for art class, but then again, I've been out of
high school for 17 years. YIKES!

ditto!  I didn't see the movie until after I made the box (I was inspired by an exhibit at the Whitney- can't remember the artist) and I thought it was very cool.

Also, I don't either, but it was a required basic level art course at a school that tends to focus on academics.  They were creative pieces at least- based on characters in paintings we saw, etc

omygosh i had to do this for one of my last art projects in art this past year. we had a student teacher and the project got reallllllly old. by the end everyone was tired of doing it and ready to move on to collage's. I really like yours though it's really cute. I like the unraveling tape idea.

They didn't agree on much. In fact they rarely agreed on anything. They fought all the time and they challenged each other everyday. But in spite of their differences they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other.
