I want to make this kind of stitch for a scarf, but I'm not sure what itis. It looks like knitting to me but how does one get the long thread stitches?

http://crafty.myheadphones.org/misc/

this is from the  Hi I'm Sarah & I'm addicted to thread thread.  Not only are her items  fantasmagoric, her text is a hoot & a holler. Note, the site is TINY as in 8pt font so break out the reading glasses if you are of a certain age.
Thanks for the tips in advance
slystr

the scarf is the celery & peach one, " the scraps ave begun to mold"

Which scarf are you talking about? There are several on the site (all quite cool), but I wasn't sure which one you were interested in.

Oh, I checked out a book at the library when I was learning to knit and it was a pretty wonky book, but it had lots of neat stiches in it, including that longish stitch.  I don't remember how to do it, but the book is called The knitting goddess : finding the heart and soul of knitting through instruction, projects, and stories By Deborah Bergman.

If you're talking about the pink and green 'mold' scarf, I think she did something like this:
rows 1-4: knit across
row 5: *k1, yo (maybe a few times), repeat from * to end of row
row 6: k the k stitches, drop the yos
Repeat rows 1-6 until your scarf is about as long as you want. knit 3 more rows, bind off.  attach fringe.

It looks like she used a pink ribbon and a green eyelash held together.

It doesn't feel like exercise when you're wearing chiffon.
