These are beautiful in these bright colours! I love the little house stamp, so cute!  Cheesy
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: First Ever Handspun - done on drop spindle on: February 10, 2010 02:22:49 PM
This is just like my first attempt! I've made four skeins since then and each one is slowly but surely looking more like yarn, so definitely keep going! I love the thick and thin effect though, and recently I've seen a few things made with that kind of texture in stores and thought, hey, I could have made that, so your handspun does have a purpose, you'll find it eventually!

These are all beautiful! I'm in the same situation (long distance relationship) and I recommend crochet, especially blankets as they're comforting! Plus total immersion in a TV series of your choice to watch while crafting Tongue

These are a really good way to beat the blues though, so cheerful!
4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Learn to spin in 2010 on: January 28, 2010 08:47:56 AM
This is so useful! Having videos to watch gave me a much better idea of what was going on - the new terms can be confusing without things to look at! Drafting seemed like the most mysterious and unexplained part of spinning to me so it's fantastic to have it all simply laid out like this. Thanks!

I love the wristcuff idea! Especially as it's a very small amount of yarn to make something, yet I can wear it and show off if I want to Cheesy

I think I'm going to focus on spinning before I move on to dye as I'm a one-thing-at-a-time person, but I love the colours in the picture, that's beautiful!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm using a drop spindle, though I would kill to get my hands on a wheel!

I will try to knit something small and simple to make the most of it. Ideally something I can display somewhere and point to it and say "that was the first thing I ever spun (span? spinned?) back before I was brilliant and only made beautiful things..."  Tongue

I'll keep experimenting and follow the spin-along when it's available and hopefully acquire some skillz somewhere along the way!
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / First spinning attempt! on: January 26, 2010 02:39:23 PM
It's not really yarn, it's more like slubby, partially unspun chunks interspersed with things thinner than sewing thread. But it's my first go so I'm proud anyways!  Grin

I took way too many pics of it in my excitement but this is my first post so I don't know if I'll do them properly. If not, I apologise. Also I'm sorry they have to be crappy webcam pics, as I don't have a camera.

Since I'm always gawping at the fibre Friday thread I know there's a wealth of knowledgeable advice-giving spinning geniuses of Craftster who would love to point me in the direction of actually making something consistent and knit-with-able? (Hint hint..)

Thanks for looking  Smiley
