1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Embroidered, painted and crayon-ed canvas - Also, Nino's Birthday Present on: October 16, 2008 03:58:06 PM
When I asked my friend Nino what she wanted for her birthday all I could get out of her was one word 'friends' so I decided to do a portrait of me and her. Well my reference photo was not only a terrible picture of me but had been shrunk by the owner of the camera before I could stop it. So I scrapped that I idea, found another picture and just did Nino  Grin

I painted her in, then embroidered her, then coloured in the background with crayons (I *heart* crayons). I then decided that wasn't enough and added the flower.

Flower close up.

I apologise for the bad photos and the inclusion of me. I was too lazy to get up and try and use my isight properly.

So what do you think? Just thought I'd share.

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / How to stop my thread fraying? on: September 07, 2008 02:30:27 PM
Hi, I'm hoping some of the incredibly talented people in these parts can help me find a solution to my problem. I'm currently stitching on a pre-painted canvas and the tension is making the thread fray and snap where it's threaded through the needle.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks?

Thanks in advance!
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Crashing my browser on: June 12, 2008 06:51:36 PM
I don't know if this is happening to anyone else but Craftster keeps on crashing my browser. I check of the site very frequently but every 3rd or 4th time I look my browser crashes and I have to reopen it.

For those who want to know I'm using firefox.
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Nick in a box! (Tarantino/CSI inspired) on: March 18, 2008 04:34:24 PM
Here's what I made for my sister's birthday inspired by the Tarantino CSI episode(s)

I did all the outlines in what I believe is backstitch (Not really an embroiderer), coloured in with watercolour pencils then covered the background with brown yarn of some description from Grandmother's stash.

The Poncho idea was all urbanchic1212 Smiley

Here's a link to it's thread in discussion and questions for another pic or two and related discussion.

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / How should I finish my Nick in a box? on: March 17, 2008 05:02:26 PM
Well me and my sister both love the Tarantino episode of CSI where Nick ends up burried in a big perspex box so for her birthday I decided to make a piece based on that but now I don't know how to finish it. The main work is already done (mostly) but I don't know whether to leaves the edges of the canvas or do something else. Any help most appreciated.

Here's an over all of it:-

And here's a random close up so you can see what's going on a bit:-

Thanks!
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Sewing with felt on: March 09, 2008 03:58:19 PM
Sorry if this has come up before, if it has I couldn't find it! I was just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on sewing with felt. I have a gorgeous gray felt coat that was my sisters that I want to take apart and resize but I'm not sure how best to treat the material. Any help would be much appreciated.
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Following the trend... on: February 18, 2008 01:55:41 PM
So I jumped on the bandwagon and made the infinity dress out of some burgundy type jersey I got in Amsterdam a couple of years ago and I love it Grin

Here are a few different tying options

Trying strapless

Close up of the tying detail because it looks kind of rubbish in the full shot

One with shoulders and accidental smirking

Warning the previous style does roll up Roll Eyes

Random brainless look on face not required.

P.S. This is my first clothing post so be nice Tongue
8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / My first art post and first project post! on: January 27, 2008 03:22:11 PM
Well here it is, my crafty unveiling Tongue Not very exciting I know but I'm sure I'll get round to other things as well...

I randomly painted this a few months ago and I'm not sure what I think about it. I love how organically it all happened and am strangely attached to it but I honestly don't know what I'd think about it aesthetically if that wasn't the case.

What do other people think?

Ta muchly!

P.S. Sorry about the crappy photo quality. I don't know where the camera is so I had to use my iSight but at least I have that.
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Circle skirt with pleats? on: January 22, 2008 02:48:37 PM
I really want to make a circle skirt with lots of little knife pleats, ala Marilyn Monroe's famous white dress, but I have pretty much no idea how to go about it. Can anyone please help?

Thanks muchly.
