When I asked my friend Nino what she wanted for her birthday all I could get out of her was one word 'friends' so I decided to do a portrait of me and her. Well my reference photo was not only a terrible picture of me but had been shrunk by the owner of the camera before I could stop it. So I scrapped that I idea, found another picture and just did Nino 

I painted her in, then embroidered her, then coloured in the background with crayons (I *heart* crayons). I then decided that wasn't enough and added the flower.

I apologise for the bad photos and the inclusion of me. I was too lazy to get up and try and use my isight properly.

So what do you think? Just thought I'd share.

Hi, I'm hoping some of the incredibly talented people in these parts can help me find a solution to my problem. I'm currently stitching on a pre-painted canvas and the tension is making the thread fray and snap where it's threaded through the needle.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks?

I don't know if this is happening to anyone else but Craftster keeps on crashing my browser. I check of the site very frequently but every 3rd or 4th time I look my browser crashes and I have to reopen it.

Here's what I made for my sister's birthday inspired by the Tarantino CSI episode(s)



I did all the outlines in what I believe is backstitch (Not really an embroiderer), coloured in with watercolour pencils then covered the background with brown yarn of some description from Grandmother's stash.

The Poncho idea was all urbanchic1212

Well me and my sister both love the Tarantino episode of CSI where Nick ends up burried in a big perspex box so for her birthday I decided to make a piece based on that but now I don't know how to finish it. The main work is already done (mostly) but I don't know whether to leaves the edges of the canvas or do something else. Any help most appreciated.

Sorry if this has come up before, if it has I couldn't find it! I was just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on sewing with felt. I have a gorgeous gray felt coat that was my sisters that I want to take apart and resize but I'm not sure how best to treat the material. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well here it is, my crafty unveiling Not very exciting I know but I'm sure I'll get round to other things as well...



I randomly painted this a few months ago and I'm not sure what I think about it. I love how organically it all happened and am strangely attached to it but I honestly don't know what I'd think about it aesthetically if that wasn't the case.

What do other people think?

I really want to make a circle skirt with lots of little knife pleats, ala Marilyn Monroe's famous white dress, but I have pretty much no idea how to go about it. Can anyone please help?
