371  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: How to cope with being too popular? Seriously! ;-) on: June 20, 2007 05:56:23 AM

I've had my doll business for 4 years now and I still get overwhelmed with custom orders often. The best way I have found to deal with it and keep everyone happy at the same time is this...

First I threw out the first come first serve idea and started filling my order book by intended purchase dates which helps ALOT!  And I keep a pretty good inventory of dolls for the times I'm booked up and need a doll to list on Ebay ( I like to keep a one doll a week presence there for marketing reasons)  I also almost always work on more than one doll at a time... I break down the process into steps... cutting bodies, making faces, stuffing bodies, clothing, hair, accessories.  I spend a whole day dedicated to each step... if it's cut bodies day, I cut 40 or so.  If it's make faces day I do about 10. Then I'll spend another day stuffing them all and so on. Did that make sense?

Oh wow, your creations are soooo adorable!

Thank you!

I love your Creepy Rag Dolls.  Kiss

Thank you!

I have loved your dolls since I first saw them over on livejournal. But this one, I have got to say, is one of my favorites.

Thanks! She's one of my favorites too!

She's gorgeous  Grin

Thank you Smiley

Wonderful doll....

The eyes are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

thank you Smiley

i really like your work! (especially the alice in wonderland one!!!!)
how long does it take you to  make one doll and her dress, or clothes, can you take them off or are the sewn like so they act as the skin, (does that make sense HuhHuh).

Thanks they look great!!!!!!!!

Thank you! Alice is one of my most favorite dolls to make. On the average each doll takes me anywhere from 6-12 hours spanned across a few days. I make the bodies and clothes separate,  but I usually like them to have form fitting outfits. so they aren't always removable but are not sewn directly into the bodies.

I *heart* creepy rag dolls.

me too Smiley

Wow, that is incredible!

thanks Smiley

I love her! I actually love all your dolls, I went to your site and checked them out and they are absolutely amazing! I'm going to bookmark you and keep my eye out for one for me to buy! I love them sooo soo much! I'm in awe!

Thank you very much Smiley

I never really got into the whole rag doll thing, but after seeing yours I think I understand now. These are fantastic! Extremely well done!

Wow! Thank You!

i love it

Thanks!

I love it! Grin

Thank You!

oh my gosh those are really adorable. my favourite is for sure the two headed one.

Thank You!  That two headed witch was fun! I had made her for a theme contest in an Ebay Art group... the theme was "which Witch is which". Anyhow she was my first attempt at siamese twins and a really fun challenge.

I ADORE the Harley Quinn one on your site!!! My partners nickname is Harley, and is obsessed by her! Ive tried making one for her but its nowhere near as good!!

Thanks!  That doll was a custom order and the buyer decided not to buy her because she thought she was too scary LOL.

Awesome work.  I loved seeing your gallery.  AMAZING!!  I've been wanting to make a doll of my daughter.  This was inspirational.

Thank you! And I'm thrilled to have inspired you Smiley Making a doll for my daughter is how my whole obsession with doll making began!
