The postal gods were good to deathbeforedishes and I this time, and I got a lovely package in the mail.
I am so excited to finally read Angela's Ashes, it's been on my to-read list for something like 10 years! Talk about never getting around to reading something, haha. The button that isn't quite showing up is an adorable little worm...a BOOK worm. Sorry about the bad pictures, my camera is kind of on the nearly-dead side. Unfortunately you can't really see the cool bookmarks, one is an elastic with pretty beads (in one of my favorite shades of purple, I might add) and the other has an adorable mini book.
And just LOOK at that beautiful needlework. No, seriously. LOOK!
I love it, love it, love it! I love Poe, I love The Raven (of course), I love blackwork, I love lace...really this is about as good as it gets.
All right, here I am finally with my wonderful flag from sparks!
She blended a few of my themes/prayers (including dragons, hope, courage, shiny things, and "depression lies"...it's a very powerful flag!) into one very meaningful and very timely flag. It is a dragon's eye peering out from the darkness.
The texture on it is incredible. The scales are painted, sewn and embellished with wire, and the beadwork around the edges of the eye really looks like beautiful shining scales. The part around the shiny button (?) pupil is crocheted.
Thank you so much, sparks!
This has been such an awesome swap, I love this gallery. I'm ready for round 2!
I received my package from scarlet_nights on Saturday, but I've been ill so I haven't taken pictures. Sorry!
No more waiting though, here are my goodies.
Everything together! Pretty hand-stitched pillowcases (I'm so excited, I've always wanted fancy pillowcases! ), lovely hand-beaded necklaces in a style taught to her by her great-grandmother (they look awesome on but I fail at action shots), vintage jewelry, vintage hankies, and vintage napkins (I think? They're awfully big and thick for hankies...whatever they are they're really pretty!)
Detail of one of the lovely pillowcases...lookit the little birds! *loves*
The hankies, presided over by Roxie. I love the anchors because they're cute, but I love the pink lace equally because it is a mystery (says Mexico, stamped Florida).
Thanks so much, scarlet_nights! This has been a great swap!
I made this for scarlet_nights in the vintage swap. When I was poking around her pinterest in the stalking phase I came across the most beautiful picture she had pinned, and I knew I had to do something with it. I'm not sure where I got the idea to paint the picture and then embellish it with embroidery and sparklies, but that's what I did. I knew I wanted to keep it sepia-toned but have the feathers as a burst of color...at the last minute I decided to give her red lips as well because it seemed better balanced. Enough talking, picture time!
Face detail...I used sparkle tulle netting for her headdress and tacked down the folds with little stitches.
Feather deail...I mostly used couching but there are a few other stitches floating around in there as you can see. I had a concept of kind of having the feathers turn from sepia to bright color as they got farther away from the lady's hand, but I'm not sure about the result, I don't think it really worked.
The most tedious, mind-exploding part of the whole project- my first run-in with lattice stitch! The feathers took a long time but this part...oh man. I'm still tired, hehe.
Aaaand, just for fun...
My original inspiration.
So, what do you think? (And yes, I managed to remove the cat hairs before sending, but I forgot to do so before taking the pics, lol)
I've been chewing my leg off waiting for Assassin's Creed 3 to come out, so in the meantime I made myself this shirt. The Ottoman Assassin crest from Revelations is my favorite so far, so it's my first shirt (I have the feeling I need more, because every time I wear this it makes me happy in ways I can't fully explain).
I don't even want to talk about how long it took me to cut out this crazy thing. Let's just say I watched a couple of movies.
The colors are inspired by the gradient in the loading screen of Revelations, but obviously I changed the colors completely to fit what I had on hand and to match the color of the shirt. I'm really, REALLY pleased with the way it turned out! I used Tulip Soft fabric paint (the kind that comes in bottles similar to acrylic craft paint) because it's easy to work with and has really stood the test of time and washing with me. I have a couple of shirts I used it on that are 3 years old or more. I love this stuff.
Bonus action shot...
I just got him at Toys 'R Us today, which finally got me off my lazy behind and inspired me to take pics.
Oh, and to give credit where it's due, the image I used was from Vesferatu on Deviantart.
I was trying to think of something witty to say here, but I'll just lay is straight out instead. If you're like me, you are counting down the SECONDS until AC3 releases in October, and you are feeling the urge to strap on that hidden blade and use it as a crafting implement. (Don't lie, you know it would be awesome to use it to make paper snowflakes or something when you aren't stabbing Templars in the face)
Is anyone interested in an Assassin's Creed swap? Big or small, even OTT?
I've never organized a swap before so I would prefer not to and instead co-org, but if no one else can I am more than willing to take the plunge.
Come on, Assassins (and Templars)! Let's get crafty AC style! What do you think?
Pins is home! Here's a pic of him with all the goodies Willowe sent.
Willowe did such an awesome job finding weird statues and public art (my favorite!) and this is my favorite page from the scrapbook she made for Pins. I kept trying and trying to get a good color pic of the lovely yarn, but I just couldn't manage it. It's definitely a shade of purple that I just love. I haven't decided what I'll make with it yet, but I can't wait to start working with it, I've never used such nice yarn before! The big sheet of paper with all the pictures is a 12 month calendar which I adore, and which is hanging next to my craft area.
I got an amazing package from sweatereyes today! Lots of pics ahead!
The note...cutest Luna ever? Yes, I think so.
Inside the note...with the second cutest Luna ever.
When I first took this awesome guy out of his package, I saw the hair and thought to myself, "Oh neat! Sailor Moon!" and then I saw the colors and pretty much exploded with glee. It's Zoisite in disguise as Sailor Moon! I love that episode SO MUCH. And now I have my very own cross-dressing mayhem-causing Zoisite.
I couldn't get a good picture of the tiny little Kunzite (so freaking cute!), so here he is on display with everything else...note the gorgeous fanart (I love fanart!) which is getting framed tonight.
Speaking of the gorgeous fanart...detail! Jealous yet?
How about now?
And one more shot of everything together, including yummy snacks and a gratuitous cuddle shot.
Thank you so much for being an awesome partner, sweatereyes! I can't wait for you to get your goodies, too!
Alrighty, sorry for the delay, here's what I received from hautedogclothing.
Sorry, I'm not positive what these are...legwarmers?
Burlesque inspired stuff. The bra fits perfectly, which I consider a miracle because I have an awful time finding bras. Don't mind Luna in the background, she likes the feathers. I'm kind of considering having hubby take an action shot...too nekkid for Craftster?
Bookmark, bobby pins with Sailor Moon and RHPS, bracelet, earrings, fun ribbon.
