1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Gift bags made from Flyers on: September 24, 2011 09:38:04 PM
I know these have probably been done to death, but this is the first time I've ever attempted a project like this.  I made these gift bags using grocery flyers.  I used cereal box cardboard to line the bottom, since I'm giving heavy gifts!  They seem pretty sturdy and they only took a little while to make.  I think they are a lot more interesting than traditional gift bags, and I love that I got to re-use the flyers.

I like this one best because of the bow.

The string is made from paper too, just twisted like rope.
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Patchwork Gratitude Dress on: July 17, 2011 05:08:40 PM
For my Sustainable Happiness class, we were asked to do an assignment expressing gratitude and appreciation.  I decided that instead of a letter to ONE person, I would make this dress that appreciates all the wonderful people in my life.  It took about 30 hours to complete.

The dress is made from 7 White T-shirts to make the patches and 1 Black T-shirt for the trim, so it goes with the theme of sustainability.  Each patch has a phrase of gratitude destined for someone in my life painted on with a brush in black fabric paint.  Some of the phrases include:
"I am enjoying getting to know you."
"Words fall short of what I want to say to you."
"Thank you for respecting my choices and decisions."
"You have always been proud of me no matter what."
"Nobody makes me laugh like you do."
"Our friendship means more to me than I imagined."

I'm not planning on telling what patch belongs to whom, but instead allow people to guess.  I hope you like it, I'm really proud of it! Grin

And some progress pictures!

Any comments/criticisms welcome!  Thank you!
3  COOKING / Dessert / Cakes I've made over the past year! on: June 19, 2011 07:12:29 PM
Hey peeps!

I decided to share some of the cakes I've made for various occasions over the past year.  I'm most proud of the Gluten-free cake, since I mastered the chocolate-lattice-stand-up-things.. Could someone tell me what they are called?

Gluten-free Dark chocolate Cake

Flourless chocolate cake I made for my boyfriend's mother. The "Anna" was done by putting paper cut-outs of the letters and sprinkling icing sugar over it, then removing the paper, of course.

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Backless XL Sweater dress Recon w/ Mesh inserts on: June 13, 2011 10:16:03 AM
I'm a long time member, but I haven't posted in about 5 years!  I made this dress from an xl large dress, basically making it my size and adding some embellishments to the back!  I don't have a before picture Sad.

The back is done with the original fabric and a bit of stretchy mesh I bought.

I got some compliments on it! Let me know what you think.

The Back: (best part!)

5  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / LAYERED Cold Nacho DIP! on: June 18, 2005 08:12:06 PM

Because my family is crazy, we have family gatherings like everytime there is something going on (ie: birthdays, anniversaries, random made-up holidays) and anyways, my mom ALWAYS makes this amazing dip so I figured I'd share it with all of you.

YOU WILL NEED:
Cream cheese 1 pkg
Mayonnaise 1/4 cup
Sour cream 1/2 cup
Cheddar and Mozzarella cheese
Salsa
Tomatoes (optional)
Red and Green Peppers (optional)
Onions (optional)
Tortilla chips

DIRECTIONS:

Mix together cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream with an electric mixer. (You can do it by hand but it may end up quite lumpy. Oh, and btw, you might want to beat the cream cheese first so there will be no lumps.)

Using a spatula, spread mixture onto a plate or platter.

Spread COLD salsa onto the cream mixture. (Don't mix it with the bottom layer for god sakes!)

Sprinkle grated cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top.

For extra flavor, sprinkle tiny pieces of chopped tomatoes, green and red peppers, or onions on top of mixture.

Serve as an hors d'oevres/appetizer with tortilla chips.

We usually can keep a party of about 30 happy with this.

ENJOY!
