1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Batman and Joker shrink plastic earrings (+ a swallow) on: August 05, 2008 05:17:28 AM
I work in a cinema and have been fully gripped by Batman fever - what an amazing film!! - so I decided to make some appropriate earrings. I get some interesting comments from customers Wink

They were made from Shrinkles and decorated with Sharpies, and were so much fun to make, haha.

This is a necklace I made - another shrink plastic one, this time a swallow. I love all things old-school like anchors and swallows, so I love this necklace. It was made with frosted shrink plastic and sharpies again, and I traced it from an outline of a Sailor Jerry swallow. You can just about see where I snapped a bit of the tail off (it's a bit fragile) and managed to melt it back on again!!

Opinions? comments? I might make a spiderman earring next, and mix and match!!
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Toy jewellery on: June 11, 2008 09:15:57 AM
My new favourite hobby: putting anything I can get my grubby little hands on on a jump ring and slinging it on a chain, or making earrings! This is what I've been up to lately:

Monopoly earrings, made from bits of Travel Monopoly. The money is stuck to card and then covered in sticky backed plastic, and I used a pin to poke holes in the playing pieces.

Skittle earrings - the skittles came from a cracker! I love the crap you get in christmas crackers, there's huge potential for quirky jewellery Wink Once again I used a hot pin to poke holes in the heads of the skittles.

Ahhh one of my favourites - the tiny dino pendant. I wish I could find more tiny dinosaurs because I just love him so much. Used the hot pin again, although I felt a bit bad shoving it through his little head...

If I ever get lost... I have a compass pendant Tongue and yes, it actually works, although you have to hold it horizontally! So, er, I can always know where north is.

And finally, a domino. This was from a cracker as well, I've got a few of them and I'm planning to make some matching earrings as well... nice and simple. I just glued the pendant hook on the back.

That's all for now... I'm off to continue my search for little plastic animals to make jewellery out of Wink I hope you like them!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tegan and Sara-inspired messenger bag! on: April 04, 2008 02:07:10 PM
Hey everyone,

Losing my Craftster virginity here (long time lurker and occasional commenter!), this is a messenger bag I made for my friend's birthday a while back. She is a massive Tegan and Sara fan (understatement of the century) and so I decided to make her a T+S-inspired birthday present!

Sorry I haven't got any photos of the inside, but it's lined with red satin, and has a pocket inside.

This is the album cover it was based on:

I used this legendary tutorial (which I'd definitely recommend to everyone!) and it took me a few hours in total. The hardest part was the hearts on the front, which I did before I sewed the flap together. They're made of red felt, and are sewn on by a little cross-stitch in the middle of each one. They're arranged as close to the cover of the "So Jealous" album as I could get!

Hope you like it Smiley
