21  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Re: Soft doll advice? Can anyone help me work this out please? Bunka doll. on: April 09, 2010 12:58:24 PM
I was thinking of making one too, maybe we should both give it a try and compare notes! This artist http://tanpopo0118.deviantart.com/ on deviantART makes them, and gives a few pictures as a 'tutorial' - they are not a pattern but might help provide some tips. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your creations Smiley

I know it sounds annoying to have people tell you to walk before you can run, but as a beginner you need something that isn't way over your head, if you are like most people then trust me, it will be too hard and you will give up when it doesn't work with you at all. The character is appealing enough to work in 2D, and look at some 3D soft toy patterns (again starting with the easier ones until you get better at it) to understand how it all works. After lots of practise you will be able to craft your own patterns. Good luck!

You might be better off just sewing a standard pocket (without zip) if you are new to all this. Check out a general sewing book from the library if you are determined, though. Hope it goes well and would love to see the final monster.

I agree, use sew-on velcro (glue-on tends to peel off) is your best bet, and is more interactive if for a child.
