1  Re: Dia de los Muertos / Mexican Folk Art Swap GALLERY (send outs 5/30) in The Swap Gallery by smushisweetbaboo on: June 14, 2011 05:14:11 PM
so our wonderful swap leader Erica sent me goodies and I didn't even know they were coming! I didn't get internet back until Thursday which is when I got the package!!!

The whole wonderful lot:

She knew I was into tattoos and tattoo art so I got these awesome original pieces right off the wall of her tattoo shop!!!!

This is so cool, it's on corrugated cardboard and you can even still see the can imprints from soda or something (I LOVE repurposing stuff for art supplies!!!!)

sign:

I believe her sis-in-law made the felted skully and as you can see there are lots of awesome supplies:

And this is so timely because I've been dying to get start some embroidery for my new apartment: lots of line tracings to use as embroidery patterns!!! Most I believe were original and a couple were refined from internet pics (Erica can rephrase that it if I got it wrong, lol). I believe I have the original poster of the skulls embracing design so I can't wait to embroider that for my bedroom! (My hubby and I have a somewhat morbid sense of what is romantic):

Again, thank you so much Erica for helping out my partner in an unexpected and difficult situation! You are awesome!!!!

2  items I sent to my partner IMG HEAVY in The Swap Gallery by smushisweetbaboo on: June 14, 2011 04:55:51 PM
Okay so, I am posting pics of the items I sent to my partner who unfortunately is hospital bound. I only had my crap cell camera at the time, of course, because I was moving! My partner basically wanted stuff to do with Frida Kahlo, likes bright colors and colors paired with white, wanted a shrine, mentioned friendship bracelets...trays and boxes, etc.

So I made her a bottlecap mirror using Loteria images, I had Pinned one and she mentioned wanting one...I did aged the whole shebang, including mirror, so it would look more authentic:

close up:

I also made her a Frida shrine. I worked a long time on this, adding, subtracting...wish the pics were better! I used a photocopy of a postcard pic and altered the image. The glass pebbles read 'viva la vida' across the bottom:

A Frida frame, with the postcard pic in it for lack of something else:

A Frida mini-altoid tin shrine:

Front:

Inside:

A Posada calavera skull tray (I photocopied then aged and colored the image, used black gesso as a base for the tray so it would more closely resemble painted Mexican furniture):

another view from side:

A painted Frida Folk Art picture holder (has those wire thingies to hold pics, can't see in pic): I left this pretty plain to emulate folk art:

Hand colored (with Sharpie) sugar skull tealight holder:

Glass pebble Loteria magnets (these are the larger pebbles):

My version of a friendship bracelet (peyote stitch with a loteria parrot clasp):

Some extras: I made the Ojo de Dios, natch, but the milagros charm is vintage brass from Mexico and the little baby is because my partner was finding the Little Baby Jesus discussion hysterical...

Some more extras (sugar skull stickers and banner):

Hopefully my poor partner will recuperate quickly and can go home soon!

3  Re: WWP Beltane Fires Gallery (SO 4-25-11) in The Swap Gallery by smushisweetbaboo on: May 06, 2011 02:28:41 PM
so my partner rec'd on the 28th and has still not posted pics so I am going to. Her main requests that I used were something that could go in her windowbox altar, green man, fairies and celtic designs.

Non-fire item: I probably should have taken a pic of this in the window to show off its sparkly bits, but dummy me I put it on the corkboard; it is a sun catcher for her window and has a pewter green man pendant on it (although with the spiral and copper it's a pretty balanced piece for both god/goddess XD)

Fire item: Although I didn't make the candle I know who did. Smiley I included the sand and a lovely piece of hematite that seemed ready to leave me. I call the hangy thingy 'candle holder jewelry' for lack of better term.

This is the one I did for her son, with candle holder jewelry being Green Man related and a little more earthy. I also put in LED tealights so he could light his without actually lighting anything. And some small pieces of hematite as well.

Fairy Plant stake:

This little Green Man icon just pretty much made himself while I was poking around my jewelry table. Smiley

Anyway I hope this stuff gets lots of love, it was made with it! And I am wearing the viking weave necklace today and have gotten several comments on how cool it is!!! Cheesy

Soooo...here are pics of the unfortunately destroyed matchbox I sent Sarad. Sad RIP!

and the stuff I stuffed inside:

The tattoo swallow was handdrawn as an homage to her and her boyfriend's pet name for each other: 'bird' and the owl pendant was an image transferred on a shell pendant that I made. I also made the earrings. Hopefully they survived!

okay so here is the wonderfullness that curiousfae sent!!! Cheesy

First off, I had forgotten that I'd put Neil Gaiman/Amanda Palmer as a theme I'd like so I was super stoked to see this (yeah, I squealed):

Then, I was delighted to discover the box's innards:

Packed:

Unpacked:

And I squealed again when I saw the inside (caution: swear word involved):

Seriously awesome!!! I am going to turn both the cover and the inner box into magnets so I can see them all the time, and I totally have plans for my goodies, where were UHMAZINGly dead on for my crafting purposes. Cheesy Thank you so much, curiousfae!!!! I only hope mine is an adequate trade!

10  Zero/NBC painting in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by smushisweetbaboo on: November 13, 2009 04:37:44 AM
I made this painting for my partner in the 13 Days of Halloween swap:

and you can see the difference that the lighting makes on how the moon face comes out:

I actually cut all the pieces of Zero's body out seperately of tissue paper and 'painted' them on, as well as with the moon, so that there was more texture. I have to give credit to putting Jack's face in the moon to my hubby, who also suggested I not do it in black as I originally did, but more of a two-tone effect. I think it looks pretty cool, although the pic doesn't really do it justice. Smiley

Thanks for looking!
