1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Darth Vader: My first quilt on: December 18, 2014 07:24:49 AM
My sister is having a baby girl, so my friend and I decided to make a Darth Vader quilt for our baby shower present. The baby can't use it yet, but she'll grow into it! We did it all by hand--neither of us know how to use a sewing machine, but the (hours and hours of) time was good bonding time!

We based the design of Vader off of the Lego Vader, then we found different Star Wars-themed fabric for the space around Vader. (It's hard to tell from the pictures, but we stitched in Vader's mask and suit details too.) Then we used purple cloth for the backing, to match the nursery.

Each corner of the quilt has a different ship (star destroyer, Millennium Falcon, etc) and a different Star Wars cross stitch. Here are the Death Star...

And Yoda!

I'm looking forward to doing more quilts. It was fun!

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / FINALLY - The Beatles Yellow Submarine cross-stitch on: February 15, 2013 11:49:09 AM

Beatles Yellow Submarine cross stitch is done. Not in time for my brother's birthday last year, but just in time for this year!

I didn't design the pattern--not that talented yet--but I found it online for free, so enjoy!:

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Christmas shawl for Grandma on: December 19, 2012 03:31:13 AM
For my grandma. They just moved her table at her assisted living dining room and she's always cold at meals now, so I was trying to help!  Smiley

This knitted up pretty quickly and looks more complicated than it is. A good knit-in-front-of-Downton-Abbey project. (Free pattern from Lion Brand.)

Sorry, I didn't see your question sooner!

I used Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool. It was really, really nice to work with.

It took me 4 months, but the lover's knot afghan (free pattern from Lion Brand Yarn) is done in time for my friend's wedding! Woot!

10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Oh what a tangled yarn we weave- (how do you store balls of yarn?) on: January 12, 2012 09:32:46 AM
I keep mine in those plastic storage drawers that people use in bathrooms or college dorm rooms. They're not expensive, they're stackable, and I can always add more if my stash increases but it never looks messy. Also, I can keep wool separate from other types of yarn, etc, put my needles in another drawer. I LOVE them.
