211  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: New wallet on: July 14, 2007 01:12:41 PM
Cool! Is it coated with some kind of contac paper or tape, or is it just made out of that slick paper they make posters out of?

212  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: sew I'm trying to make this purse on: July 11, 2007 08:33:37 PM
According to the site you downloaded the pattern from:

Full instructions for creating your own leather purse, plus tips for working with leather appear in "The Goods on Leather" in the December 2006 issue of Sew News magazine.
Try e-bay or one of the yahoo groups for buying/selling craft/sewing supplies or your favorite used books/magazines site.

MAmadurk, never used leather so I'm not much help.
213  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Canvas + Sharpie =? on: July 11, 2007 08:20:53 PM
The Sharpie *might* lighten a little after a few washings, but even if it does, it's a Sharpie.  Get out the pen and re-trace the lines if you are very unhappy with it.

214  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Thank you gift for textiles teacher on: July 06, 2007 04:50:33 PM
Maybe a tote bag using a technique you learned in the class?  Or browse through the bag/purses/etc forums.  LOTS of great ideas there.  Is the teacher a he or a she? Does teacher have kids?  Dress up a $Store photo frame?
215  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Ribbon Replacement? on: June 19, 2007 05:09:59 PM
Would a yarn work?  The newer yarns are yummy!! Lots of fun funky stuff and certainly cheaper than the ribbon you mention---even if you end up crocheting or braiding or otherwise using multiple strands.

216  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Business Cards??? on: June 12, 2007 07:43:17 PM
I use them for flashcards (we homeschool)

Great size---can also use them to make matching games (play like concentration).  These are especially good to use with preschoolers early primary aged kids.

Use the backs to label things--file drawers, dresser drawers, book reports, boxes.
Make your own playing cards?
Use to make those playing card wallets or purses?

Fold in half to make place cards for parties? Or to put beside foods on a buffet with the name of the dish.
