Thats lovely! The fish is so cute!

Thanks everso Cheesy  It's the first time I've tried doing an applique kinda affair like that and I sat there ages drawing out different little fishies and looking on google for inspiration, I meant him to be a bit more menacing and piranha-like originally but I didn't give him teeth and so he ended up more cute than anything!!

It looks good  Cheesy
How come so many people are afraid of zippers?  Grin
I never tried one but I will, once our sewing machine gets fixed..

Not sure, fear of the unknown I guess, or maybe as zips look so good they must be complicated!  In reality actually attaching the zip is really simple, the bit I've had the problem with is what order to sew everything together for the bag (in the case of this bag, I did it all totally in a cackhanded order) and such like that, there are just sooo many ways you can use a zip!!  Shocked

Thanks guys, I totally think I'm gonna have to make another just for me now, and I know Lemmy won't but I'm gonna have to name my fishy!!

i love the fish --so cute !!!great job --i am to afraid to try zippers!!

I know how you feel, I was so resistant to trying zippers and finally I decided to give it a go on a little coin pouch and it wasn't half as bad as I expected.  Mind I've done a good dozen zip items now and still haven't got it perfected, ha ha ha, oh well, will keep working on it!!

What a beautiful bag.  Where did you get the pattern this.  I would love to make one myself.  Nice work.

Thanks Dausha Cheesy  My inspiration came from a book called "Making Vintage Bags" by Emma Brennen, ISBN 978-1-86108-502-3.

It was quite fiddly in places, especially since I used extra heavy interfacing to make it nice and sturdy, and I mucked it up in a few places but hopefully I've learnt from my mistakes and might even make another in the New Year Smiley

Hi all,

I got an order from my mate Lemmy ages ago for a bag, basically she never uses bags but since she's now a grown-up (over 30) she thought she should really have one at least for work.  Problem is Lemmy is notoriously awkward, she likes black and that's about it, I showed her several black fabrics I had but she didn't like any of them so in the end I found a black with reddish wide pinstripe that I thought she would like, but didn't tell her about it as I had decided to make it for her Xmas pressie!!

So here it is basically, she requested something else to be on it other than just plain black and said she liked a bag I had made from fishy fabric only that was way too colourful so I made a felt applique kinda thing of a fishy scene I thought of.

I was totally nervous about giving it to her (mainly cos of the fishy cos I was worried it was just tooo colourful for her) but we had our annual freaks xmas meal and pressie opening last weekend and she loved it (she's not that good at hiding dislike of things so I'm fairly sure she was telling the truth!!) Cheesy  I loved it too, phew!!

Only downfall is that Lemmy requested a zip on the bag and I'd only ever done them on little coin purses and my memory card holder (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=210306.msg2254798#msg2254798) Wink , and I just did it all in totally the wrong order and couldn't seem to attach everything together and was swearing very very heavily the night before I gave it to her, I think it should last ok though, fingers xed!!  I've learn from the swearing though and am already planning my next zip bag!

Hope you're liking it Cheesy  Hoping to do a similar kind of one for someone else for xmas but with a diff animal, but can't say anymore as she sometimes pops on here Wink

Comments/critique welcome. Thanks for looking Wink

I just finished going through this ENTIRE gallery. This swap looks like SO much fun. I wanna know when Round 8 happens Cheesy

OMG me too, only found this gallery thanx to someone posting a link in the postsecret gallery thing, I sooooo want to join in the next round!  I'm already compiling a mental list of places to go and even told my friends who are as insane as I and as such are also coming up with ideas Wink

The only problem would be deciding who should go, as it is I have so many stuffies that they have to take it in turns to come on holidays and come to support us at our twice weekly league tenpin matches!!!  Oh maaaan I'm dancing on the spot at the very idea of this swap  Grin

Ha ha, I've never heard of this game with Putt-Putt but especially seeing the pic it made me laff cos my bloke's car is called Putt-Putt cos she's pretty old and that's the noise she makes when he drives her Cheesy

Stuffed toys: I'm 31 now and I still love them, don't expect it to abate, the back of my sofa is covered with Ugly Dolls and upstairs I have loads more stuffed toys tucked away Wink much more than when I was a kid I'm sure.  And to the card posted a few pgs later about treating your stuffed puppy as a real dog, me n the BF always talk to my stuffies and they talk back to us and other people, t he he.  I never want to grow up!!!!
