1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Re: Colorful Mosaic Wall on the cheap!!! on: April 13, 2009 05:57:57 PM
I love this!  If I didn't have my room painted already, I would totally do this.  Maybe I'll try it for my next apartment.

maybe i'll use this- what do the dashes mean so i'm perfectly clear? you did a good job creating this chart, and by hand!

The dashes don't mean anything.  I started to use dashes to lay out the pattern but it was easier to color it in.

That is really really excellent, I'm planning on doing something like that for my room in my new apartment. Pardon the ignorance, but did you just paint a rectangle of pink and then paint the flower directly over it? If so, good detail work. Also, have you considered running the lamp cord through the wall?
As a side note, my friend has the same bed...

Sorry for taking so long to respond but yes, I did just paint the rectangle and then the flower directly over it.  I could run the lamp cord through the wall because I didn't know how to.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.  I'm afraid I'll be moving soon so I'll be leaving my mural to my friend.  I hope she keeps it up for awhile.

Thank you all for your comments!

lilmisspink-  I freehand painting the flower from an image the book "Chinese Cut-Paper Designs" from Dover Publishing.  I roughly sketched the negative space (pink) parts first with white chalk on the first night and painted what was supposed to be orange the next day.  I guess it took me 3 hours in total.

tygra- yes, my bed is from Ikea and I was thinking about painting it black but I like the natural look of the wood.  Besides, I have two dark pieces of furniture in my bedroom so I didn't want to over do it with the dark furnishings.

L- Paint your wall!  I was afraid at first because of what my landlord my say but I said "fuck him, he doesn't live here.. I do and I'm painting!"  Everyone should have a bedroom that suits their taste.

phwhoa I think that's about the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on a wall!  You did a lovely job on that.  Did you use paint from the paint section for the colors?

Thank you!  I used Behr paint from home depot.  I was forever trying to figure out what would be best color for the flower that could stand out from the pink.

Here's my bedroom back wall where my bed is.  It took a year to decide to expand the pink rectangle and add the flower image.  After two weekends and a lot of hard moving and paint fumes, I"m finally done with painting my bedroom.  Next project: the lights.

9  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: Basic Cable from...SNB Nation!!! on: October 20, 2005 03:35:35 PM
Here's my version, using some kool-aid dyed yarn I have.  My "model" was unhappy about being used this way.  I think next time I'll make it longer - I added an additional cable but it still too short for big heads.
