Great idea!  They also make a wood moulding (yeah, I like the old-fashioned spelling because it doesn't also mean "growing fungus") that is called picture rail or picture moulding.  They used to put it up by the ceiling (where a crown moulding would go) so you could avoid putting holes in plaster walls.  It has a rounded top that accepts a special hook for hanging wires on that hold pictures and can usually find it at home centers and lumber yards/hardware stores.  The little 1942 house I bought last year has some in a couple rooms and I love it.  I want to add it to a few rooms, as well.  Here is a link with photos and info of each the parts.

I love http://www.thistothat.com/!  Your pie safe looks adorable and not at all like you're trying to hide something.  I know someone who did something similar with wallpaper, but think that your idea will be much easier to remove later.  You did a great job centering and lining up the patterns on your fabric!

You go!  That's some gutsy and fun window treatments you got there.  I recently saw someone use fancy rhinestone dog collars as tiebacks which might be a cool way to add some flash. Also, stores like Ross, Marshall's, etc. sell way cheap elaborate tassels in the window section of the home department (of course you could make cool tassels, too!

Wow!  Very inspiring... I find collage or any sort intimidating, but thinking about working in such small scale might make it more manageable for me.  If you make more, it would be just awesome if you posted larger photos, pretty please.

wonderful. did you get the map when on a trip?
i'm going to prague soon and this looks like a nice way to commemorate a voyage

I was in Praha in April and was thinking the same thing about my well-worn map from that trip!  And also my Paris map from a few years ago.  I like the idea of the worn spots and such showing up.  Please share if you do it!

I'm thinking vinyl from the fabric store would be really quick and easy. If you use tissue or have a Teflon foot you could sew on some details.

Those are great!  One question: "Practically being tossed?"  Roll Eyes

I really like big rings and am so happy about the current popularity of cocktail rings.  Yours look really fun and cheerful!

That's really cool!  Plus it looks like that shade of green is your color.

I think you're channeling Jim Hensen!  That is so awesome!  All their noises would be a great ring tone.  At least for the first 6-7 rings.
