4181  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: From Bridesmaid to Snow White on: September 02, 2007 06:44:44 PM
Thanks for all the sweet comments on my DD and the dress.  I do love the extra memories tied into it.

MistressT--I think you are right about letting little ones wear costumes for other occasions besides Hallowen and parties.  I had DD try on the dress the same morning of the birthday party to finish the hem.  We still had to run a few errands before going and she insisted on wearing it out.  I decided to let her and she got so many comments while walking around in Target.  It was too cute!

We have our whole lives to be "appropriate", live with dress codes, to feel all the pressures of appearance, etc. so to have those first few years to dress like a day dream or mix colors unconventionally is a gift it seems crazy to deny them to me.  One of my honorary nieces went through a phase were she liked to wear a hoodie, diapers and snow boots around the house.  Why not?

There's never a wrong time for a wee one to wear a costume or for any girl to feel royal!  It's so awesome that there are so many layers of meaning to that dress and that you were able to reuse things instead of tossing them out or letting them hang (and "hang") neglected in your closet.

Thank you!
The flowers are from a sheet of Decoupage paper by Calambour if I remember correctly. Actually there was just one "arrangement" of flowers, that came also mirrored and in different colours. So I had to turn them around or cut flower buds off so that it wouldn't be too obvious that they were basically all the same.

Wow!  One would never guess that it was all the same!  I'm even more impressed.  I've never heard of decoupage paper and now will have to look into it.

Thanks, MistressT! She actually said something along the lines of "This is f'n amazing! I love it!" when she opened the box and immediately put on the necklace. The gnome struck a nerve, it seemed.

Maybe she'll be inspired to take pictures of herself in all the places she wears it!  It might be really fun, even just around town.  "Here I am at the dry cleaners," "This is me in line for a latte," and "Here I am getting my teeth cleaned!"

Super cute!  You did a really good job of sticking to the theme w/o using the movie logo or a photo of the characters which is the more clever way to go.  I hope she likes and appreciates this wonderful gift!

Wow!  That's really fun!  I think you arranged the flowers (and butterfly) really nicely to have balance without symmetry.  What are the flowers made from?

Those are super cute!  I'm especially fond of the wrap skirt, a style I've been thinking about making for a few weeks.  I haven't made real clothes in 15 years or so, but that seems (seams?) like a good project to get restarted with.  You picked really cute fabric for all of them and they look like the fit really nicely.  Good work!

What an awesome project for you and Lana!  Not to mention the lucky recipients, because those t-shirts turned out really great.  "I made that!" and "Somebody made this just for me!" are two of the best things for a kid to be able to say.

I was thinking leaves in the fall, snowflakes for winter, etc., but it must be noted that I have a fascination with 4-seasons imagery.  Ahem.  After reading the rest of the thread, I thought "Fawn!"  4' would be enough, right?

That's really awesome to package things so professionally and cleverly!  One of my favorite things about watching my male friends and my female friends' partners become parents is how quickly that manly man business turns into cooing, cuddling and kisses.  It's so great that these days it's not impossible to find gifts for dads specifically and how proud they often are of their manly burp clothes, manly diaper bags and manly tea parties.  I'm sure your cousin-in-law will be thrilled as will the people who buy and receive the ones you sell.
