Thank you!  It's been awhile since I've been motivated and inspired, so it feels good to be back into it.
3922  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / It's a Bigfoot Xmas on: December 06, 2008 04:10:44 PM
So last Christmas my good friend gave me that teal and purple reindeer.  It's SO up my alley as I'm a sucker for teal, I'm a sucker for purple, I'm a sucker for glitter and that thing is flocked AND marabou-ed!  It's the most Vegas/drag queen-y Christmas decoration around and I LOVE it!  When it came home it sat on my piano with Bigfoot for awhile and an idea hatched.  This is the result.

This would not have been possible w/o bsonlytoots who read my signature request for a Godzilla swap.  She crafted that lovely beast and was super awesome about requests and parameters!  I also have to thank kittykill who tried her damnedest to help me out, but things just didn't gel.  However, I got to meet her (we live pretty closely in the same city) and will hopefully continue to get to know her even more in the future.  Also special thanks to my friend, Sol Neelman, a pro photo journalist who helped guide me, took the pic and did the editing and all that - all for a trade of getting some ring-around-the collar out of a white linen shirt (http://solneelman.com/, http://weddings.solneelman.com/)!  Chump.  Wink
3923  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: people just don't understand (rant!!) on: December 04, 2008 06:58:56 PM
Here here!  I have a limited number of text messages my phone's inbox will store, but I keep the one from The ManFlesh that says "Your made things are better than things bought in a store for that matter."  And when I told him about this thread and the people who's friends or families don't appreciate the time or quality of hand made he said, "Really?" and was truly shocked and baffled.  He's a keeper.
3924  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Thanksgiving / Re: I was a Pilgrim Cheerleader. on: December 04, 2008 06:54:36 PM
oh my god this is hilarious!

Thanks!  It was fast and fun to make and fun and easy to wear.

everyone should dress like this for thanksgiving.  it would make it more enjoyable.

Haha!  Now I wish I still had the elf skirt I made in Jr high (it had an elastic waist, so maybe it would fit, kind of) so I could have an xmas costume, too!

Do I remember your mentioning that your co-adventurers for Thanksgiving add another event each year? (in addition to the three legged race and the cranberry spitting contest, I think you mentioned, I didn't go back to look)

What was the new event this year?

The rest of us have been puzzling over what kind of sporting events you can do with a wattle of beer tucked under your chin.....at least I have  Roll Eyes

I'm sure you were the best pilgrim cheerleader ever! Love the buckles and the pom poms especially.

One can't underestimate the importance of the quotation marks when I say "'athletic'".  Ahem.  I will try to get them all, but I'm sure I'm going to miss one and not get them completely in order.

1. 3-legged Race
2. Cranberry and Catch (in the partner's mouth)
3. Dribbling a soccer ball around some cones
4. Tossing a football into a bin about 15' away
5. Tandem bike race (one peddles, one rides on the seat, trade places for return trip)
6. Hunt for the squash with your team number on it
7. Each team eat an entire package of the cheapest processed turkey (fake turkey for vegetarians)
8. Guzzle a cheap can of beer
9. Walk with a raw egg on a spoon, transfer to partner who walks it back
10. Tear open the waddle and drink the beer then "slam" the empty glove on the ground.

I think the egg was the new one this year, but I'm not entirely certain.

I would actually love Thanksgiving if I had friends/family members who were that enthusiastic about having fun. I was laughing like crazy when I saw the first picture because the idea of a cheerleading pilgrim is just ridiculous, but after knowing the reasoning behind it, it's even funnier!
You better have something good to show us for Christmas too  Grin

Well, my family came, but it wasn't their holiday.  It saved me from having to go to 2 dinners!  I wish I had something for xmas, but I think it's just going to be a red shirt that I didn't make.  Sad

Looks marvelous and oh so much fun!  Love how you took the pilgrim girl costume idea and made it so uniquely your own.

Well, it never would've happened w/o blatantly stealing from you!  My pom poms were pretty lame, but I thought "these people were starving, so I'm sure their pom poms were even more lame."  If I had to do it again and wanted to spend any money, I think turkey feather feather dusters would've been the ticket for the pom poms.   Grin

Where do I sign up for next year!  How much more fun that would be than hangin' with Auntie Mabel over dried out turkey!

Nice thing is that these friends are foodies and vintners, so the food was great (deep fried, brined turkeys) and plenitful (eventually)!

I can't decide if the best part of your post is the description of the "Turkey Trot" wattles, or this line:

.... so I decided to be a pilgrim cheerleader.  Any excuse for a costume.

The best part is dinner after!  Well, and maybe the Bloody Mary's before...
Grin Just plain awesome.  Kiss

Pilgrim Cheerleader Plain and Tall.  Hahaha!  Thanks!

hehehehehehehehehehehehe! can't stop laughing.......

I giggled a lot making and wearing it!

I love that you've distressed the material to make it look more like a bit of scrap paper!  And the blue lines, red line.  Of course, if it were on my desk for very long, it'd have at least coffee ring on it.   Wink
3929  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Thanksgiving / Re: Girl Pilgrim Cap and Apron on: December 02, 2008 09:53:54 PM
Well, here it is, such as it is: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=281106.0 .
3930  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Thanksgiving / I was a Pilgrim Cheerleader. on: December 02, 2008 09:51:52 PM

I made the apron and cap out of bleached muslin and much help and guidance from GraceOblivious and her post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=280005.0 .  I made the buckles and their straps out of foam core, aluminum foil and vinyl and the pom poms from a cheapo plastic table cloth from the dollar store and some cloth tape.  All of this stuff was laying around the house so this was a no-cost project.  Didn't realize how the dog's leash and the camera might further de-authenticate my look.  Oops.

Closer view of the cap.

This is one of the few times I didn't read all the directions carefully before beginning and I messed up the cap because of it.  Luckily, it's just a goofy costume and no one noticed. I know it looks like my team lost, but the event hadn't even started so I don't know what that sad face is about.

"Ok Mistress T, but why?" Well, The ManFlesh's pals have an event 'most every Thanksgiving called the Turkey Trot which is a series of "athletic" events completed by teams of 2 all the while they're wearing latex gloves of beer under their chins like turkey wattles.  Yes, they're a "bunch of yahoos who like to drink" and yes, it's fun and funny as heck.  That said I'm not athletic, nor am I "athletic" so I decided to be a pilgrim cheerleader.  Any excuse for a costume.
