Well, the first time I ever traveled with a required passport, I happened to run out of toothpaste and had to buy some. I thought it was neat that the Colgate was labeled in Spanish. So the next time I vacationed abroad I had a look and began to realize how culturally specific toothpaste tubes could look, how inexpensive and ubiquitous toothpaste is. On top of that it's useful (I display just the empty tubes), no one cares at customs, and one can even empty the tubes prior to returning! And finally, there is something about visiting a place as mundane as a pharmacy or grocery store in a foreign land that feels like a bit more of an immersion into that land.

Unexpectedly thoughtful.  Smiley

I forgot to mention that friends and family tend to get into it and will bring me toothpaste from their travels or even hit up their friends and family to pick some up for me! I'm a lucky lady!

Thanks everyone!

The toothpaste fabric is epic! (love the wood grain, too, of course!)

That toothpaste print came from Japan and cost a pretty penny, but how could I resist? Poorly or not at all, that's how.

Great stuff, the Mexican sugar skulls bath towel is by far my favorite and the toothpaste hand towel is great too (and a wonderful choice considering that she's a dentist).  I like that wood grain fabric too, I've never seen material with that motif before.

If you don't mind my asking, what about foreign toothpaste attracts you as a collector? (I'm not judging, I accumulate all sorts of things myself, and I regularly read the blog of a guy that collects ancient expired food.)

All but the toothpaste towel are dishtowels, actually. I wonder how cotton print/linen would work as a bath towel?

My SIL and her family moved into a new house a couple months ago. I've been trying to pry color or theme information out of my MIL who lives near them without much luck. The ManFlesh got to visit them and told me that "there is literally no decoration at all" yet, so I guess no one was holding out on me, after all! So I took the opportunity to use some fun fabrics and trims from my stash in whatever colors struck my fancy and I did it while he was still visiting, hoping that I can get them mailed off before they can be "wrong"!  Tongue and  Wink

Three kitchen towels:

The one hint I was given was that my SIL likes green, which I was already told was her favorite color, so I used it in all the trim selections.

And one bathroom hand towel. My SIL is a dentist and she gets a big kick out of my foreign toothpaste collection, so hopefully she get a giggle out of this.

I will be making one off these for myself with slightly different trims! Well, that's the case for most of these, actually.

The backs of all the towels are white linen.

I just really, really love this. I love how your bowls look, I love how you cared to keep them around and in use. Maybe you can store dry foods or foods with thick peels or something in them to mitigate any side effects of the glue?
