Wow! That book looks amazing!  I'm not sure if you've mentioned this before or not, but what story is it?  It looks gorgeous!

It's a collection of stories/poems about phoenixes....my whole package was phoenix themed Smiley

I wanted to post a few more pics of the awesome stuff ethertree made me...I have my camera back now, but she took some great pics and said I could share them, so I will post some of my favorite bits.

some shots of the gorgeous handmade book. the details in the drawings and burnt spots are amazing.

The way the pages were bound created pockets between them, into which ethertree slipped little extras like feathers and handpainted leaves:

I need to get a better pic of the awesome origami earrings, but i'll have to wait until tomorrow in the daylight.

Ack! I must have picked the worst time to go away from craftster for a few days! So many amazing packages, and I seem to have just realized that my partner meant for me to post better pics of the stuff I made her. Here. In this thread. Me not her. I feel a bit of a doofus  Tongue (pumpkin face! Happy Halloween everyone!!!!!!!!  Grin).

Actually, I totally meant to post some pics of my favorite bits from your photos that you have in your gallery...but new boyfriend and halloween got in my way *guilty look*

ashestoashes, have you read World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie Wars, by the same author? It's really good! Lots of politics and logistics, all done as interviews. It's fun on audio (different actors read each part) but it's slightly abridged.

I haven't, although I plan to read that one eventually as well. I love zombie movies as well as other zombie stuff in general.

In book-related news, I just started a couple of spooky books for Halloween - Joe Hill's 20th Century Ghosts, and Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves. I think I'm actively reading about seven books right now....but admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery, right?

My halloween reading is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I'm about halfway through already-it's a quick read. I wanted to read The Zombie Survival Guide as well, but I'm not sure I'll get to it.

I got my package from ashestoashes today, and I absolutely love it!  Grin
Without further ado, I'll let you see why for yourself!

Aaaaaaannnnnd . . .

A pillowcase with some stupendous embroidery! I work as a library assistant part-time, so this cracked me up  Cheesy I also think it proves that ashestoashes is psychic, because for the past few months I've been using an extra sheet wrapped around my pillow in lieu of a pillowcase!

Finally, three books and a wonderful letter explaining some of her inspiration for the items! (We did a book swap in addition to our craft swap Smiley). I've been needing The Amber Spyglass to complete the His Dark Materials Trilogy for ages, and the other two are not only two of ashes' all-time favorites, but books I've been wanting to read as well! Apparently A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was my grandmother's favorite book growing up, and The Bell Jar I've had on my list for too long.

Haha! I always joke that I am pyschic, so this just adds to my case Smiley I'm so happy that you like everything, and I hope you enjoy reading the books.

That Lost Souls tape is one of the most awesome swap things I've ever seen Smiley That book was such a major thing for me in high school. It's perfect, and i love that it's a book.

I got my package from ethertree today, and it's probably the best swap package I've ever received. She picked up on a theme that was important to me and ran with it, with amazing results. I love phoenixes and mythology and everything in this package perfectly reflected that and my style.

Unfortunately, my camera died, and my dad is out of town with his, which I would otherwise borrow. I have a few crappy cell phone pics, but ethertree said she has a ton of pics and hopefully she will post some!

I opened the box to see this:

Inside, I found some beautiful treasures:

a feather bookmark, a handcarved bamboo fountain pen with red ink, and a feather bookmark:

I've never had a real fountain pen, so I had to try it out and it writes amazing.

The large project was a handbound book full of phoenix poems and lore. I can't even begin to describe how detailed it is. The pages have pockets between them with secret treasures tucked in, and the drawings are amazing. I hope ethertree has some better pics:

And I got the best origami phoenix earrings(*horrible* pic):

We also decided to swap some used books, and these are what she sent me:

I sent my package today and i have some serious swap anxiety right now....!

You'd never know I had all this extra time to work on this swap! I am working like crazy to finish things up this week, and I'm super glad for the extra weekend. I might have a problem, I can't find my __________s that I need to finish my large, but I know they are around here somewhere. I have one medium all ready to assemble, and i just need to pick out some ________ to finish the other medium. One other items isn't quite doing what I wanted it to, so I need to rethink that this week too. Ethertree, I swear this isn't the disaster it sounds like!
