Amazing bike! I haven't wanted to mess with the paint on my '72 Schwinn trike, but this is making me reconsider!  Grin
13  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Sterling and Resin Stacking Rings- on: May 11, 2010 02:16:21 PM
How long has it been since I posted a resin related anything on Craftster?!  Roll Eyes
I made the  bands with 16 gauge sterling silver wire, and filled the bezels with micas and glitters I had sitting in a Samsonite case for the last couple years, calling my name... It's the 1st time in 2-3 years I was up casting resin at 2 in the morning after Amelia went to sleep, and now I want to hoard them all forever! Actually I need to do some math and order supplies for summer shows!

These are great! Where do you get the sheet metal? And why do you have to oxidize it?

Sorry for all the questions...but I LOVE metal art!

I get my metals from Rio, depending where you live you may have a local supply shop, but I don't. I think the most frequently mentioned other shop I'm aware of online is monsterslayer.com, but I've never bought from them.
They're oxidized to blacken the letters, I use liver of sulfur, but you can put your metal in a plastic bag with an egg, as far as less toxic versions go, or using what may be on hand.

and Rio requires you open an account, but you don't need a tax ID or anything, just name, email addy etc   Smiley

Love love love! I'm another person you reminded that I have a bone to do something with, a jawbone with one pointy tooth, found on vacation in Florida a few weeks ago, no clue what it is!

I love them, I would smash trying to make them,  I'd never be able to do that!

18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / My favorite thing today, a BIG copper poppy- on: April 17, 2010 06:36:31 PM
I formed it by hand, from copper sheet, after drawing the Poppy with Sharpie. The balls are made from scraps of copper leftover from cutting out the flower, heated with the torch till they ball up. It's the biggest thing I ever heated up, ( you heat it up to soften the metal, annealing it, so it's not too brittle or hard to bend...) and it was really warm working with it! Fun though!

Sterling silver stacking rings, they were Amelia's idea! I hand cut the hearts from sterling sheet and hammered sterling wire for the rings, soldered them together, oxidized, and voila!

Aww, I spent half an hour watching our blue mystery snail in the aquarium a little while ago, they're amazing creatures! Great shot!
