11  The kilns weren't hot enough, so I bought a torch! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ammasmama on: January 14, 2010 04:43:20 PM
I don't think I've posted on this board in awhile, been on the glass board, hi!

Title pretty much sums it up! Sterling silver, copper and brass, mostly rings. I made the glass cab in the bubble ring also!

This one is PMC-

12  and my Sunday project, still curb furniture- in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by ammasmama on: January 03, 2010 04:28:36 PM
Another curb piece, It's missing two knobs, so I think I'm going to get 2 glass ones tomorrow, to go with the ones on all our doors in the house, if the snow will let us out of here?! it's very squat and deep, it has a lot of attitude for a little table!

Near the hammer is a little white sticker that said $1.OO, apparently they couldn't even get rid of it at that price.

It has the streaky brown layer, a yellowish layer, a blue layer, a gray layer, and a GOLD layer. Plus the laminate top had many layers topped with gray, not sure WHAT they had been using it for with the top like that?!
The laminate stopped before reaching the back, I guess there was something there? I'm adding trim across the back to cover the back left corner, possibly, if it doesn't get too Frankenstein on me! otherwise I'm happy with it the way it is, with knobs.

It mostly holds Wii-motes, camera cords and little electronic things Amelia leaves alone if they're out of sight.

13  How I spent my Saturday night- in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by ammasmama on: January 02, 2010 08:09:09 PM
[ complete with flash and low light icky Saturday night photography, but o-well Roll Eyes ]

my curb chair [as in found there, with the trash] which I've had a few months and been meaning to refinish. That dirty blue rag is the stringy fabric seen around the edges of the original chair seat, where they recovered it and it all disappeared but what was nailed down. The seat fabric now matches my downstairs curtains. I love that fabric.

I love trash!

Now if the contractors would just get to work on the floors, all would be truly photograph-able!

14  Re: Ceramic Christmas Ornaments! Stars! in Winter Holidays by ammasmama on: December 10, 2009 12:45:33 PM
Here is a pic of the ones I made with the cold porcelain - they still need a bit of drying before I brush off the loose cornstarch, paint, and clearcoat them - I will post a finished pic too because I really like the iridescent paint I plan on using Cheesy

I forgot to check back, so I just saw them, they're adorable! I love the little trees! I still can't figure out where Amelia took last years cookie cutters, and I still haven't found toddler sized ones for making small cookies, grr!

15  Sugared Millefiori Christmas trees!! in Glass Crafts: Completed Projects by ammasmama on: December 10, 2009 12:05:00 PM
Sweet fused glass Christmas tree ornaments, about 1 and 3/4" high, made with sparkly green aventurine glass, topped with clear frit -ground up glass- "sugar", and millefiori flowers! The wire they hang from is fused into the glass Grin

I love them!

My mom also pointed out the millefiori reminded her of this candy, which I remembered once I saw it, and goes well with the "sugared" concept, but was totally accidental/incidental!  Grin

Tack fused millefiori flowers and hand cut stringer glass stems/petals. My way of ignoring the snow outside!

17  Re: Who needs a turkey when you have an apple swan? in Recipes and Cooking Tips by ammasmama on: November 30, 2009 08:22:21 AM
yep, butchered! But she loves it! I totally cut off his head trying to shape it, the base is way too wide, and my knife wasn't made for apples! Totally pleased Amelia, but I don't think I'd decorate a table with it! And I don't know WHAT the expression on my face is?!

18  Re: Let's see your sewing machine!! in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by ammasmama on: November 27, 2009 07:35:03 AM
I just wanted to show off the new one, I got this Sewmore the other day at the Salvation Army. I initially passed it up not wanting to pay $7O for it, but then they dropped the price to $5O and I remembered a pink vintage machine I regretted not getting a few months ago and got it first thing in the morning!

She's a Japanese made Singer clone, and she purrs. I usually sew on a 1951 Singer 2O1 like this one-  http://sewingforlife.wordpress.com/2008/02/28/why-a-singer-201-will-always-be-a-favorite/  and my only complaint in comparison is that the cabinet for the Sewmore is lighter wood, and the machine vibrates a bit at high speed, the Singer doesn't. I like the Sewmore's knee pedal too, never had one before!

Hmm, I also have a newer Singer for serging, and a newer cheap Brother machine for zig-zagging and decorative stitching.

19  Ceramic Christmas Ornaments! Stars! in Winter Holidays by ammasmama on: November 27, 2009 07:04:30 AM
I'm tying one to everyone's presents this year, and sending some Fleur De Lis to people we volunteered with in New Orleans/Buras after Katrina [shh, no-one knows!] and my family from New Orleans, I love their simplicity, and the way they're not totally Christmas-ey and can be used all year!
They're ceramic, fired in one of my kilns, rolled with a rolling pin, hand stamped, and the curved edges turned up by hand Cheesy
