11  Re: Sideshow Swap in The Swap Gallery by craftsurge on: May 07, 2005 11:58:37 AM
WOW! I received my package from Idigmusic yesterday. All I can say is the amount of love I felt from a stranger never made me feel so good. I was totally overwhelmed with my package.
For starters, all you Carnivale fans are sure to be envious of my new Carnivale box. It is wood-burned with the image of the tree from the show on it. Seeing it in the picture does not do this piece of art justice. It is so amazing, and it is decopaged on the inside with 3-d pictures (glasses included) and a smaller box on the inside with a picture of my 2 favorite carnies. Samson and Jones. And that is not all! I got a t-shirt with the carnivale logo on it, a book called Geek Love, and a lucky hand charm.(which is going to stay in the box for good luck-
THANK YOU Idigmusic!! You made my weekend, I havebeen bragging about my stuff to all my friends. This was my first swap, and I know I will do more now thanks to this great experience.
Thanks again, you are very talented!!! Did you sew that envelope? Its SO cool!
I am wearing my new shirt right now!

I thought I would post my newbie pics.... you can see I still need a tumbler.  This is a stamped pendant that I oxidised and a ring with a manufactured ruby.

I found someone to certify me in Art Clay. I am going to do a private session and get all my projects done in one day. I think that is probably best since I am already working with the clay and have a good feel for the basics. I really like working with this stuff.

15  New Crafting Workbench from my husband in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by craftsurge on: January 23, 2005 07:10:27 PM
My husband made this workbench for me this weekend. I think he was a little tired of how I took over the guest bedroom to the point to where you couldn't walk into it. I am very excited because there is lots of room for my fabrics underneath and the table itself is 6 feet long. This isn't exactly a houseware as much as it is a tool for crafting, but I had to post because I am  impressed with his craftmanship.  The only thing is I have to craft in the garage now. I guess its not to bad, I will make it cozy for craft time out there.

16  Re:star wars embroidered pillow? in Needlework: Completed Projects by craftsurge on: January 28, 2004 11:24:01 AM
OK - here is mr. stormtrooper completed. He is still not a pillow yet, but hopefully that will be the easy part.

I decided on black fabric w/ white stitching b/c I thought it would be easier to keepclean, I really want to make a white fabric version now though.

Edited to fix broken picture link

17  star wars embroidered pillow? Tutorial in Needlework: Completed Projects by craftsurge on: January 21, 2004 11:27:36 AM
I made this emboirdered tie fighter with the idea of making a set of pillows for my husband to go in his office. The idea came from the most recent Ready Made mag in the Post Martha section.
So I completed the first one and am now  having second thoughts. I think it kind of looks cool even though I am not much of a Star wars fan, but do you think he will like it?  Huh It is embroidery after all. I haven't made the pillow yet, I just kind of laid it on top of another pillow for this picture- so I can still do something else with it. Any ideas ? Comments? This is my first try at embroidering too so If I messed up that is why.

Edited to add:

I am fixing all my broken picture links...

18  Re:Record Notebook in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by craftsurge on: January 09, 2004 09:56:35 AM
I loved this idea and made a version for my yearly calendar.

I used my dremel tool to dril the holes in the record and the cardstock I used for the calendar pages. I basically printed the calendar from my Outlook program so all my birthdays are already in there.

oh, and to cut the record (which took a few tries) I got it nice and soft in the oven on a flat round cookie sheet and cut it with a razor blade. pretty simple once i got the hang of it. Don't get the record too melty though.... it tends to warp in the oven.

19  Re:Frosted glass -- How to make your own frosted glassware! in Glass Crafts: Completed Projects by craftsurge on: November 29, 2003 03:18:59 PM
Well, I tried my hand at this.....

First I would highly recommend getting some glasses at the thrift store first. It is a good idea to practice. Anyway, really the hardest part was deciding what to put on them once I got all the supplies.   Cheesy

I got this set of four for a buck and think it came out ok. The glasses were scratched a little but I am keeping these and not giving them as a gift so I didn't really mind.

What do you think? I think not bad for a first try, I will definitely do this again. Thanks again for the great idea!! I had fun doing this.

20  Used Bicycle Parts in What the heck can I do with THIS? by craftsurge on: November 25, 2003 07:45:23 AM
Hi there- I am new around these parts and thought I would share a little. I wanted to surprise my husband with something cool and bike-ish since he is an avid cyclist. I got a bunch of FREE old bike parts from a repair shop down the street and now am trying to figure out what to do with this stuff.

So I came up with a couple things so far. A perfectly sized tealight holder:

and a couple of ornaments. (these I had to spraypaint silver first and just tied with a cute red ribbon):

They are the kind of thing that only a cyclist could like I think. Any suggestions would be helpful. This is a work in progress for sure. I will post more pics as I have created stuff.
I am going to do something cool with the chain I just have to figure out how to tool that handles the connections works.
