23  My first turkey ever! in Recipes and Cooking Tips by Joyful Abode on: November 22, 2007 08:46:53 PM

The breasts aren't browned because Alton Brown told me to shield them with tin foil. Grr... So it's not as pretty as it could be. But it was soooooooooooooooo juicy and delicious! Recipe-ish in Joyful Abode.

Also... it was done cooking ridiculously quickly. It was only in the oven for an hour and a half. I wasn't even planning on checking it until 2 hours... but on a whim I decided to poke it with the thermometer, and it read 160 everywhere I poked it. So... I took it out and I'm glad I did!

We had six friends over for dinner... mostly student naval aviators (my hubby is one too) who didn't have family nearby. It was really nice. And they all liked the turkey too.

Oh, and I made great gravy. hehe.

25  New Recipe Cards in Recipes and Cooking Tips by Joyful Abode on: November 18, 2007 02:11:50 PM
I wasn't sure whether to put this in paper or cooking... so I put it here. I guess I think of paper = office. Cooking = kitchen... and these are definitely for the kitchen.

I'm so excited about my new recipe cards! What do you think?

26  Beef stew and honey cornbread (with pic) in Recipes and Cooking Tips by Joyful Abode on: November 15, 2007 11:30:47 AM

It's getting cooler, and that means it's time for warm comfort foods like beef stew. This was really delicious along with the honey cornbread (and I made honey butter to go on the cornbread).

27  Autumn Place Mats - Falling Leaves in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Joyful Abode on: November 09, 2007 11:12:49 AM

I made these autumnal placemats for me and my husband. The leaves are appliqued  on, and the "dotted lines" are embroidered. I also handmade the bias tape.

28  Sea Turtle Apron in Needlework: Completed Projects by Joyful Abode on: November 09, 2007 11:06:56 AM

This was my contribution to the last "Tie one On" theme... Local Pride.

The turtle is applique-ed and so is the sun. The waves are embroidered as are the details on the turtle, sun, and the word Florida. I also used Shisha embroidery for the shiny bubbles and the circle in the center of the sun.

29  Re: Mini Halloween Swap in The Swap Gallery by Joyful Abode on: October 28, 2007 09:08:00 AM
YAY PHOTOS! Thank you so much Marci.

She made me a gorgeous cabled scarf (modeled by my yard scarecrow).

With pockets at the ends for my hands. so comfycosy!

And this dude. I love how he's holding a little pumpkin.

She also sent me mulling spices! They smell DELICIOUS and I might have to hit her up for the recipe or something... I'm going to buy apple juice today to try them out.

Thank you SO MUCH Marci. I know how much time and effort went into that scarf, and I love it. The spices smell fantastic, and the scarecrow wreath is a nice addition to my scarecrow family (I have 2 yard scarecrows and the wreath now). Thanks for making my first swap so great!

Also, more photos in my blog, including a really cute one of my hubster chillaxing with the wreath.
