1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Flea Market Bags for Christmas on: December 26, 2007 10:46:18 PM
Two nights before Christmas and I was trying to crank these out in time to give away for gifts.  The bags were made using Grand Revival's Flea Market Bag Pattern.  My favorite is the pastel colored bag, but I do like the birds on the other bag as well.  The pattern calls for a button closure or a velcro closure.  Since I'm lame with the button closures and I absolutely hate velcro, I opted to create ties for these bags with a coordinating fabric.  I'm not sure how practical a tie closure will work but I do like the look of it once it's tied into a bow.

I saw this wristlet made of a bra.  A tutorial for it is located here if you're interested in making it. http://craftchi.com/blog/?p=399

I seen these used as candleholders on hgtv.  I think they could be dressed up even more than what's used in the picture if you were to add beads to it and you can always paint the wire for a different color, although I would think if you do paint it you would want to do it after you were already done bending it into shape otherwise the pliers would probably scratch some of the paint off.    Short tutorial here: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_refurbish_accessories/article/0,,HGTV_3484_1399732,00.html

I've seen napkin ring holders made of wires and bead, maybe the hanger would work for this also?  I'm not sure if the wire hanger would be too thick to work with for this or not.

I absolutely love fabrics and can't stand to throw away any of my scraps.  So far the only thing I could think of to do with them is to use them for gift tags or cards.  If I make a bag or a dress for someone, then I use the leftover scraps in a tag or card to co-ordinate with the gift by sewing the scraps together and shaping them into a heart or butterfly (you could shape it into anything really) then I zigzag the scraps onto a piece of cardstock.  Unfortunately I don't really make these up til I need it and so the only picture I have of one is the sorry looking one below but maybe it'll give you an idea.  Normally I like to use ribbon to tie to the tag, but I didn't have any purple ribbon so I used another scrap for the tie.

I think after reading the posts above mine about using the fabric for kimono's and after reading someone else's post about what to do with Chinese Take Out boxes, I was thinking this fabric would be good to decorate the chinese take out boxes with.  There is actually a really good tutorial on how to make a Chinese Take Out Purse.  This is what it looked like...

and the tutorial is here...http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=76760.0  I think they would make cute gifts or atleast something cute to put another gift in.

The links above go to an online shop that sells furniture and accessories from salvaged items.  You will probably get more ideas from looking through their stuff.  They have a lot of neat shelves made from doors.  One of them also uses forks and spoons for hooks.    The headboards made of doors and also there should be a few tables made of doors.  I've always wanted to try something like this out but haven't gotten around to doing it yet.  Craiglists free section normally has a lot of posts for free doors that people give away from remodeling...atleast in my area.  It might be a good spot to check should you ever want more doors  Smiley

I've used some of my plastic flowers that I was tired of to decorate gift boxes.  That tied along with ribbon makes it look almost like I had it professionally wrapped.

Maybe add magnets to the back of them to put on the fridge.  I think I'd have fun spelling out little words of inspiration to leave for myself...Love, Happiness...or I know I could use "Eat Healthy" spelled out on my fridge.
