I'm working on a sort of 'childhood heroes' series of embroideries. This is Crystal Gayle, to go with the Shel Silverstein http://www.dreamfollow.com/emb2.html I did. More heroes are on the way. Smiley
14  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Hug a Tree on: February 09, 2007 10:31:25 AM

I made some 'happy little trees', they are so fun to work on! I love making stuff that doesn't need a pattern, I just cut them out. these have little embroidered bird or squirrels, and are weighted on the bottom so they stand up on their own. I need a whole forest of them.
15  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / yo yo yo yo yoda on: February 08, 2007 06:39:01 AM
(sorry, huge weird al fan.  Wink )

I made this Yoda for my husband for Christmas. I thought his eyes were a little wonky, but Josh loved him. He says they make him look like a Simpson's character.  Grin
16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Spring embroidery art pieces on canvas on: January 28, 2007 08:29:26 AM

so, I had a pile of mini canvases sitting around and no real intention to ever paint on them (I'm more of a watercolor gal.) so I pulled the canvas off the frames, embroidered it, and stuck it back on. voila, perfect little art pieces! the white ones are canvas, the green one is green fabric.

In case you don't want to stand on your head to read this, it says " A woman with needlework in her hands is generally assumed to have no other thoughts in her head, and can safely harbor any number of improprieties." ~Patricia A. McKillip, Od Magic.
I read this book recently and when I read this line, I knew it had to be preserved in embroidery. The whole book is quite good, pick it up if you get the chance. I designed it in a labyrinth shape because it's kind of a long quote, and there's a labyrinth in the story so I thought it was fitting. It's stitched in purple floss on sea green satin.
18  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The Lady and the Unicorn (and don't forget the Lion) on: November 08, 2006 08:37:13 AM

I made this based on the Lady and Unicorn tapestries, yeah the poor lion gets left out even though he's in every one too. Sad  here are the originals if you're interested, they're actually weavings: http://orion.luc.edu/~avande1/unicorn.html
it's all hand embroidery. It's kinda fun to work on a color other than white.
19  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / 4 embroidery artworks on: October 28, 2006 03:15:20 PM

20  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / tree bunny embroidery on: October 20, 2006 10:44:43 AM

here's a little tree-eared bunny embroidery. It's actually a little quilt, it just doesn't have finished edges yet.
