2  Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ MAR in Crochetalongs by yelley on: April 02, 2008 08:41:15 AM
here's mine!

i modded the center so that i had 18 total dc after the first round, then for round 3 just did 2 dc in each space. when i did it as written my center was wavy and bowlshaped...
and my filler for the month, supernova

this square will not lie flat at all... i hope joining it to the rest of the blanket and adding a border will help solve things...

i got package number two from jenicat, and it is ridiculously insane! seriously... she sent so much stuff... you are all going to be so envious and i am having some serious swap anxiety about the package i sent out today....

on to the pictures!

first, check out how huge this box it. that's my 12 inch ibook on top of it for scale... it barely fit in the package mailbox!

here's all the little wrapped packages inside... (that box that says medium item on it? it's lying! there is no medium item in there... it is more like... xxxl item!)

an awesome link t-shirt that she stenciled... i am totally obsessed with zelda ^_^

the rest of the small items together... i love love love the sushi socks!

a beautiful pin, a ring that fits perfectly, and kitty stitch markers from my wist!

leaf marble magnets (they all came unglued! i will fix them because i so need these ^_^) and a blank notebook - she decorated the inside edges of the pages too ^_^

pressed ivy leaves (my favorite!) from her yard... this will go up on the new shelves we just put in the dining room

a tiny octopus stuffie with a heart... she says this is a jason (my boyfriend) octopus and that the yelley octopus will be on its way once she knows what color she should be... i think yelley octopus would be either green or pink! (when i first saw this i thought for sure that she had bought it somewhere...)

feeling the envy yet? it gets better... a super ridiculous awesome jewelry making kit! i've always wanted to learn because i have a hard time finding jewelry that suits my tastes, but i never started because it's kind of expensive... now i have no excuses! she included lots of wire and findings, a book about wire jewelry making, some handwritten illustrated guides to help me get started, a ton of gorgeous beads in all my favorite colors (which is pretty much just green ^_^), and an extra bead case. seriously... i got so spoiled!

i can totally picture her getting all excited about labeling each compartment... that's exactly how i would have been too ^_^

jenicat, thanks for such an amazing package! i loved everything! <3<3<3

i received my package from jennybrown! it probably came a few days ago, but i was in san francisco for 4 days.
octopus stuffie! the eyes are excellent.

zipper pouch with octopus pin and a needle felted octopus! so cute! i think i will use the pouch for my knitting accoutrements... i am outgrowing my current one.

this is the best... a throw blanket with a plush squid stitched on! i love this! right now it lives happily in my knitting room with my yarn stash. ^_^

everything together:

what a great swap! thanks so much, jennybrown, i love everything!

8  bath pouf tutorial in Crochet: Completed Projects by yelley on: February 21, 2008 08:09:23 AM
i made a bath pouf for the make a friend swap (you can see it here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=225521.msg2485902#msg2485902) and ma rut requested that i write up a tutorial for it, so here it is! i bet this has been done before, but i looked and couldn't find the thread about it, so here is the way that i do it.

yarn: 1 ball sugar n cream or any sort of washcloth cotton
hook: i use an F, because it is my favorite, but anything that gets you a gauge you are comfortable with is fine. you don't want it too loose though.

ch 40
join with sl st to form a ring. this will be the hanging loop.

ch 4, wrap the chain around the base of the hanging loop as best you can and join with a sl st to form a small ring. this doesn't have to be perfect, since it will be in the center anyway.

8 sc in ch 4 ring

for the rest of it, it's just hyperbolic crochet - 2 sc in each st. you can mark the rounds if you want, i guess... but there's no need to. i made mine for 7 rounds - after that i got too bored of it ^_^ - but they aren't as full as i would like. i think next time i make one i will just keep on crocheting until i use up the whole ball of cotton.

i like these so much better than the store bought nylon mesh ones because i can toss them in the washer and not worry about them falling apart! they don't dry out like the nylon ones do, but at least i am washing and reusing instead of just throwing them away and buying a new one.

9  Re: Fiber Friday 02-15-08 in Spinning: Completed Projects by yelley on: February 15, 2008 07:53:59 AM
hi guys... this is my first time posting in this section of the board. i just started with my drop spindle on monday. i'm not good at thinking of creative names for my yarn like all of you.... here's my first attempt:

it is disgustingly purple in real life... it's the roving that came with my spindle and she didn't have much of a color selection. it varies from worsted to super bulky... since i kind of sucked at it... but it's workable yarn so i'm happy enough with my first time.
second attempt, still a WIP:

merino dyed by a friend from my knitting group. it's really thin and a lot more even than attempt number 1... i guess i am getting better.

yay yay yay! i finally get to post all the awesome things that jenicat sent me! i was really spoiled for this package... i'm kind of worried that the things i will send her aren't as good O_o

the items that describe jenicat!

postcards, glasses cleaning kit (so needed this), her favorite eyeshadow (i very rarely wear makeup, but when i do it is pretty similar to these colors!), hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (i've read it, but i didn't have a copy yet!), soap that she and her husband make, a cute mini bear (i used to collect these when i was young), a super awesome hello kitty pen/pencil (which was supposed to be in the stationery picture ^_^), and jade beads (my favorite!) from the beadshop where jenicat works.

stationery!

blank notecards - i love the one with leaves the best, but they are all great!

small things that jenicat made/bought!

pretty much the best thing in the world. i love cephalopods! i put it on as soon as i opened it. it's really detailed and carved from wood. i'm trying to think of a name for him...

an adorable knitted banana with a removable hat! earrings that jenicat made with 14k clasps so can actually wear them! and a harry potter keychain made from shrink plastic - she drew that! i was impressed.

sushi stitch markers! these are straight off my wist... actually these look a little better than the ones on my wist, i think! jenicat said that this was her first try at polymer clay... i don't believe it!

lampwork glass fruit and vegetable stitch markers! the little mushroom on the right is my favorite. they're so pretty i'm almost afraid to use them!

this was probably my most exclaimation point laden post ever here on craftster. this was such a great swap package - i love everything and i have the best swap partner ever! i just hope that she likes what i send her too...
