11  Leather color block necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ollieorange on: July 18, 2012 07:52:00 PM
There is a wonderful art gallery here in Madison. Every year they have an Art Re-Swap. The community is invited to bring in unused crafty items and in turn take what they would like. If you don't have anything to donate then they ask for a $5 donation. All proceeds go to an art program they offer for children.
One of the many things I took home were some leather scraps. I made this tonight Smiley
I'm really bad at taking pictures- I promise it looks a lot better in person!

Just as my friend and I were leaving I spotted a beautiful rocking chair frame that just begged to come home with me. This is what it looked like after I had cleaned up the springs and added some webbing to the back:

Shot with the kitty!
I also had to give it a good polishing. I found a quick easy recipe online that made the wood look gorgeous!

Here's the jackalope in his new home. I'm slowly filling my entryway with art.

Here's a facebook-like mirror shot of the Nessie shirt

Thanks dreadfullydivine!

19  Aunt Ruth's Flower Dyed Silk Scarf in CHALLENGE 66 ENTRIES by ollieorange on: September 02, 2011 09:29:40 AM
I can't believe I've been around here so long and this is my first challenge entry!

My husband's beloved Aunt Ruth passed away a few weeks ago. I having a long history of Floral Design, I made a lot of the flowers for her funeral. I also used a lot of the flowers from my own garden.  My husband's mother was very close with Ruth. I wanted to make something for her as a last memory of Ruth. I had read about how to do this so I decided to give it a try!

I used a Habotai silk scarf. It started off just plain ole' white. I used flower petals from the funeral arrangements and from my yard. I first covered half of the scarf with the petals. I scattered them and layered them randomly.

Next, I folded over the plain side of the scarf and used a rubber mallet to squish some of the color out.

Then, I rolled up the scarf with all the flowers inside.

Then, I used copper and steel wire to wrap the roll.

Next, I folded the roll up a little and put it in a plastic bag with a few T of vinegar.

I let the whole thing "cook" for a couple of days.
This is what it looked like when I first took it out of the vinegar bag.

I let it dry out then washed it with Woolite and ironed it after it was dry.
Here's a close up of the finished scarf. It turned out with a lot of green, which was perfect for my Mother in Law.

Thanks for looking!
