1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Progression of My Art Abilities (WIP) UPDATE 4/8 MOAR PICS! on: April 01, 2009 02:35:28 AM
I am a crafter. I see something I like and I make it. Or something close to it. Sometimes I don't actually get around to finishing a project because I suffer from the worst case of craft ADD ever. So in an effort to get me in the habit of finishing I have committed myself to complete one project everyday for a year. I picked something easy to complete in one day and versatile enough that I could use many different techniques (to satisify my ADD). So I found a few blank boards at the local art supply store and today I created my first piece.

I am planning on documenting my project on a blog I created especially for this purpose. Hopefully I will be posting many more of these projects on this board over the course of the year.

UPDATE April 8th!

I finished a week's worth of boards and I think the easiest thing is gonna be to just update this topic with the new pieces once a week. The pics below are clickable for larger versions, except day 8 cause something screwy happened with my host

2  ASIA / Japan / Atsugi on: August 13, 2008 02:58:58 AM
I have just moved to Japan (Day Cool and am living in a hotel for the time being. I am going absolutely nuts without all my craft supplies and there is no place on base for getting good craft supplies. I have been making due the last few days with some tools and stuff from the base store to make paper clip sculptures.

I was wondering if there is any craftster near by or someone who can give me directions to a craft store? And I should mention that I generally suck at directions and don't have a car yet. Yup, I got to walk everywhere until October when my bike arrives. If anyone has any advice for a newbie to japan I am all ears!

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Baby shelf from scratch on: March 06, 2008 10:13:42 AM
I live on the west coast and my older (by one year) sister lives on the east coast. So of course I didn't get an invitation to her baby shower. I did get her on the phone to ask what she needed for her baby girl. She explained that all her friends had taken care of all the big things and that the theme was cherry blossoms and pink and brown. So I snuck onto babies r us and found the design her baby stuff was in and made her a shelf with the baby's name and some origami cherry blossoms. I put a few coats of sealer so the blossoms shouldn't come off at all.

the pink is actually lighter in RL.

The top is solid brown and has the Sakura lyrics arranged on the top and the edges are brown as well. I haven't attached the hardware yet. Comments/criticisms would be appreciated. I sure hope she likes it.
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Wall letters on: March 06, 2008 10:02:34 AM
Inspired by a post on craftster (I am sorry but I didn't bookmark the thread to give credit) I made some wall letters for my son and my adopted daughter.

I had them chose the papers when we were in Michaels but didn't tell them what it was for. They ended up picking coordinating papers anyway so it worked out great. We are still working out how we want to hang them up.

5  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Deere inspired canister on: March 06, 2008 09:52:53 AM
I love John Deere. I have deere plates, bowls, mugs, salt and pepper shakers, and now my first canister. Of course I got the canister when I was dumpster diving last week. It screamed stripes to me and I complied. When I find a good stencil I will paint the logo on the top.

Now I just need placemats.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Violet for sister on: February 27, 2008 09:25:10 PM
This is my most recent completed xstitch. It is the second xstitch I have made for my sister's birthday. It is seriously late but since I have to mail it to her I want to collect a couple of more projects to send together.

Because of the weird shape I had a bit of trouble finding the right size frame. I found a framed picture in Joann's and took it apart to put my stuff in. I am very proud of the finished look to the back of the frame.

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / first cross stitch project on: February 27, 2008 09:19:20 PM
I made this years ago (almost 9 years) but recently found it again and took a pic. I absolutely love the frame but can't remember where in the world I found it.

8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Shoe cabinet on: February 27, 2008 09:13:41 PM
My husband owns more shoes than I do. In fact so does my son. So I needed a place to put all those dirty shoes. I found a cabinet someone had chucked. I suspect it was going to be a bathroom cabinet.

I haven't decided how to do the doors yet. Still thinking.
9  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Apple bulbs on: February 27, 2008 09:08:07 PM
4 of the light bulbs in my bathroom burnt out in one week. The first bulb I tried to hollow out broke in my hand. The second broke when my son was moving them from the table. But I did manage to paint two of them. Now I just need to find more burnt out bulbs to paint!

10  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Fairy faux stained glass - 1st try - Completed on: February 27, 2008 09:05:26 PM
Edit: I have finally finished it. I had to mix some colors to get the shades I wanted. I really love how it came out. Currently it is hanging out on my sliding glass door (the only windows I have are my front and back sliding glass doors).

I would love to hang it up so the light comes thru it but I have no idea how to do that in my current living situation. Damn apartments with no real windows.

I live at an apartment complex with a huge remodel job going on currently. So lately I have been doing lots of dumpster diving (literally). Someone threw out a glass topped side table so I took the glass and did this with it.
