1  Re: Secret Santa Big Wish Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Caecilia42 on: December 27, 2007 09:18:55 AM
I got so much stuff from Ptarmic Wumpus! First, the wrapped shot:

I was good and didn't open until Dec. 23, when I was headed out of town and couldn't wait anymore. I had asked for hand-dyed yarn, and my favorite colors are blues and greens.  Ptarmic Wumpus made sure I don't have an excuse to buy yarn for ages, with green cotton yarn (worsted weight, and has a little blue mixed in):

Also blue and green wool yarn, possibly sport weight:

And finally, blue and green rayon boucle:

It's hard to photograph because it's so shiny, but the color is much more vibrant in person.

And everything was packed in a project bag/basket made of a felted sweater! You can see the lovely card of a snowy scene in Paris, which reminds me of Central Park.

It's so clever and the deep red is a great contrast with all the blues and greens. I'm going to have to watch out so the cat doesn't steal it and make it her bed. Here you can see some of the texture of the sweater:

Thank you so much Ptarmic Wumpus, and I can't wait to wind all of this up and see all the colors in detail.

I received today from riario, this gorgeous little pincushion:

I don't know how I'm going to be able to stick pins into this adorable little bird!

You're so generous with your time! I've knit socks, scarves and hats for a few people, but I can't imagine all the time you spent on that quilt...

It has been a bad weekend here (this is literally the view from my apartment, but luckily I was at the office on Saturday), so I spent some time working on quilts to keep occupied. I should have been doing my real work, but couldn't concentrate.

Here's my finished top with border: though i'll be hanging it with the zigzags going side to side.

I also pin-basted my little windowsill quilt, and add batting after all, since I had leftovers after cutting the batting for the big quilt. While I wait for my walking foot and clear thread to arrive, I've started cutting pieces for my next quilt - My Blue Heaven at quilterscache.com.  The blocks finish at 12"x12", so they seem huge after my 1" squares.  Oh, the finished top is based on the scrappy bargello at www.quiltville.com, though I fiddled with the math to fit the scrap fabric I had available.

MarysMom, let's see it!

I didn't like that second little one above, so I ripped out most of it and rearranged. Here's what the completed top looks like:

I tried to be random in the border, but obviously that didn't really work.  Next up is my first ever attempt at quilting. I'll just stitch in the ditch, no batting. My cat better appreciate it!

Here's 2/3rds of my first quilt top:

They're 1-inch squares from scraps I found in a bag in the refuse room of my apartment building. Right now, it's 2.5 feet wide and 4.75 feet long. It will end up about 4' x. 4.75', then I'll add a black border, maybe 3 inches, and bind with khaki bias tape.  To learn how to quilt and bind, I'm making a mini-quilt for practice. Here's what I've got on that so far (soliciting opinions in the Does this look weird? thread)

Here's some four-patches and string-pieced blocks I made last night. This segment is just under half of the total window-sill quilt I would make (long and skinny). I think it might be too wild, but I'd love to have other opinions.
