1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Iron Singer Base Restoration on: March 23, 2010 04:53:10 PM
Hi ladies,

Not sure if this is the right section but I figure you will either be able to help me, or point me in the right direction.

I have a Singer Tredle Base that I have carted around with me for 15 years and spent roughly 20years under my Mum and Dad's house.

I am planning a nice sanded polished timber top, however I'm stuck on the frame.

I'm planning to strip the old paint of, prime it with a rust proof primer and paint it black.

Now this is the part im not sure will work.

Would you do gold leafing over "SINGER" and also the detail on the side? Or would that look tacky?

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Fresh Summer Curtains for my girls Bedroom on: October 06, 2009 08:16:47 PM
Got bored this morning so i thought I needed to make some new curtains for my girls bedroom. They currently had thick heavy winter ones, so I made some fresh breezy light summer curtains.

Just something basic as I haven't been crafting for awhile since I moved house.

3  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Help with table and chairs restoration on: December 22, 2008 04:51:20 PM
Hello ladies,

I am new to this area and would dearly love some advice.

I have a beautiful hardwood dinning suit and 6 chairs that were handmade for my mother 30 odd years ago. These were made by my grandfather.

It has what appears to be routed groves on the edges of the table top, legs and chairs. Upholstered seats that desperately need recovering. My mother did it 7 odd years ago but did it with rubber backed curtain material so they've gone moldy.

I will upload some photo's but just wanted a general idea where to start. It needs to be sanded, it has marine varnish however I was told to use a certain essential oil to polish it and that was a very bad decision as it's stripped some of the varnish.

thanks for your advice I will keep you guys updated with the progress. Will go recharge my camera and take some photo's within the next week (bare with me it being christmas and all.)

The first wearable top I have made :-) It's taken me 6.5 hours so far and I still need to hem it! Sorry for the dodgy photo's, I'm in the middle of packing and needed a break. It's a size 16, made from Simplicity #6765

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / First Topic/Post with Pictures - Small Handbag on: December 29, 2007 05:37:56 PM
Hi guys,

Been an avid viewer for awhile now, love the work that gets done here!

Last night I decided to make a bag  just playing around with ideas/designs etc.. This is what I came up with. The material is Amy Buttler, inside there is a clip on a tie for your keys etc.. It has a quilted lining with batting. I am trying to get a picture of the lining up however my connection is so painfully slow!
