21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: NEWBIES ONLY Round 6 (CLOSED!; SENDOUTS 9/19) on: September 24, 2007 05:36:09 PM
Now that my partner and I have completed our swap, I have less anxiety about answering these questions.

How did you feel about crafting 1 Medium and 3 Small items? Should it have been more items or less items? Bigger items? At first I was a little worried that this might be too much, but it all turned out fine.  I even had to decide not to send a couple of things.

How about the 3 weeks crafting time frame? Too long or too short? This worked out really well.  I did start on mine right away and thought I'd be finished way early, but I took my time, corrected a few mistakes, and it was easy to meet the goal.  It ended up being just right!  I didn't feel rushed or like it was too much time.

Name something you really liked about this swap.
Three things:
1. I was forced out of my comfort zone.  I had to take a risk and try something new.
2. I liked the participation requirement.  I am usually very lurkish, but I liked being involved in some conversation
3. Of course, the final products...it's been amazing watching everyone's packages arrive!

What would you change?  Nothing.

I got my package from Julia today also!

First, all my loot together:

This is a terrific bag and matching zippered pouch (change, lipstick, whatever)!

This is a knit hat Julia made for my son.  It doesn't fit, but I have a new niece or nephew on the way that it might!

This is a key cozy kinda thing.  I haven't gotten it figured out yet, but it's an attachment for your existing keyring to keep your keys from scratching up anything in your bag.

These are adorable kid earrings...a boy and a girl!

These are a pair of daisy earrings

These are the most interesting earrings and pendant!  It's funny, but we actually used the same beads...these beads are just like the ones I made her jewelry with!

Thanks Julia!  I loved my package!

Hopefully, I'll be able to run to the post office during my lunch break Monday, otherwise, it'll be Tuesday before I get it in the mail.  I'm going to my mom's this afternoon..she'd dying to see what I created for Lamentin.  So, after the show and tell...take a few pics and pack it up, I'll be ready to go!!!  This has been sooo much fun!  Now the real anxiety sets in...it feels like Christmas...I hope she likes it.  I hope it arrives safely and within a reasonable amount of time.  I hope, I hope, I hope...
Is anyone else suddenly feeling like their creations are not very good?  I mean I'm excited about the stuff I made, but I don't know if it's going to be recieved well...ARGH!!!  This is the part I hate!

Wow!  Everyone's been very busy.  I too had a catestrophic event with my med/large project.  I'm either gonna play with it more this evening or scrap it and do something else.

I craft at the kitchen table (we're never able to eat there 'cuz there's always "junk" all over it).  Occassionally I'm able to take small parts to the couch, but if  everyone's home, I'm better off at the kitchen table anyway.

I'm off work on Tuesday and hoping to get mine out then.  I hope no more blood is shed in everyone's craftiness!  The sweat and tears are just par for the course.

Have a great weekend!!!

OK...confession time...I didn't finish last night.  Cleaned up a little instead, then got wrapped up in a couple TV shows.  It'll take a couple more days now that the work week is in full swing.   I think this might be the first time in my life I've ever been this far ahead and beating myself up for not finishing yet! Smiley  What are the chances?

Julia, take your time, Hun...there's plenty of crafting days left!  I just got over excited with the new project I tried and wanted to make sure it was swap worthy allowing myself enough time to make something different if it isn't.  BTW, please respond to the question I sent by PM...I have an idea 'bout "traveling Mexican food".

I'm doing a little of both old and new.  I too, hit the craft stores yesterday...which changed my mind about some of the things I was going to make.  I may be finished this evening!

And let me mention one really great thing that happened today.  My 16 yo daughter went with me.  She really got interested in "CRACKster" cause i'm a junkie here now, and she found a couple crafty things she wants to learn.  So, we got her set up and hopefully, she will soon be able to post something she made.

"CRACKster"    :DHA!!That's the perfect way to refer to it...when talking about it to my SO, I just say, "You know, that craft site I'm on all the time"

It's OK Julia, you don't have to hold back...you have a swap partner eagerly anticipating your creations!  Go ahead, splurge on that yarn!   Grin  Just kidding...but hey, if it's an irresistible deal, keep in mind the gift giving season is just around the corner!

The city I live in just built a new super walmart and their craft section sucks!  The store is absolutely huge, big isles (which is nice) but the merchandise itself, there is less variety.  I can remember going to the old walmart and trying to buy acetaminophen (generic Tylenol) and having a large selection to choose from, now they only have the walmart brand and the Tylenol brand...no other options.  That's one just an example of the future of walmart.  They still have a small selection of yarn (fun furs and cheap acrylics) but no fabric.  They've diminished their paint choices to the basics...only child's paint brushes and Donna dewberry (which are nice, but I like more variety...I wanna feel and hold a variety before I spend a fortune on brushes).  I pretty much avoid walmart unless I absolutely have to go there.  I don't have much more to chose from unless I want to go to one of the larger cities.  Walmart is 2 miles from my house...next discount store is about 15 miles away and if I'm going that far I'm going to Hobby Lobby, Joann's, or Michaels.
