11  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Soup-in-a-jar HELP! on: November 12, 2007 08:58:22 PM
Ok...I've found a dozen or so soup in a jar recipes to give as gifts...Problem?  All of these mixes make a boat load of soup and they take all these extra ingredients.  I'm making these for some elderly single people.  They won't use it if it makes a whole huge pot or if it calls for lots of extra stuff (chopping celery and carrots for example).  I know that I can cut the recipes in half and use smaller jars...any other ingenius ideas?

Kurtzie,

I just used regular craft acrylics with a textile medium.  I did wash the onesies first...and am going to wash again after I heat set to make sure they're going to hold up before I give as a gift.  But the paint (I think because of the textile medium) isn't real stiff like I expected.  Good luck!  It's sooooo much fun!

16  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / First ever stenciled onesies--I'm addicted!!! on: November 12, 2007 09:46:51 AM
I'd never done freezer paper stenciling before, and now I'm addicted!

My brother and SIL are expecting their first baby and they aren't going to find out the sex of the little one.  They've decided to do the baby's room and baby shower in a "beach" theme.  These are one of my baby shower gifts to them.  Please tell me what you think.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

I've seen this exact same idea with fish...I suppose you can put whatever you want in it, but goldfish and Betta's really don't last very long in containers without heaters and filters.  It's a very cute idea, but not very animal friendly.

Anyway, I'm finishing the third one now...will edit my first post to add the picture.

Still have one more (it's base coated yellow) with no idea about what to put on it!  Cry

These are what I'm making for teacher gifts this year.  I made the orange one for myself, but I have done the red one for a teacher.  I have 1 more teacher one to do and would like your input on a design.  I want a clipart to copy, so any links would be very helpful!!!  Please tell me what you think!

Since the season is upon us (where'd the time go), let's try to liven this thread up with new ideas!  I'm dying for ideas for my brother!!!  He's going to be a first time dad in January and I'm at a loss this year for a Christmas gift or a new dad gift.  I'd like to keep Christmas to gifts for the couple without the baby...you know, save the baby stuff for when the baby actually arrives.  This will be their last Christmas as just them.  Since they've moved 7 hours away, we don't get to see them as much as I'd like...and things with pictures just aren't happening lately.   Any ideas?

I got the key cozy figured out...very cool idea!

I was wondering if the hat didn't fit 'cus my boy has a big head.  We've recently become addicted to loom knitting and he, my 10 year old, is knitting a baby hat for his new cousin!  Every round he holds it up to me and says, "is it big enough now?"  Knitting in the round on a loom is very easy, but I wouldn't know where to begin knitting with needles.

I learned how to knit and crochet with books.  My mom is an avid knitter, but she's left handed and I'm right and couldn't learn from her to save my life.  I prefer crochet, because I'm faster at it.  I'm a crafter who needs immediate results, especially when trying something new.  I guess that's why I can't stick with cross stitch...it just takes too long.

Just so you know, the bag is already in perfect use...I'm looming pumpkins and my yarn and loom fit perfectly in the bag and the pouch is the perfect size for my hook and the scraps of fabric I'm using for stems and needle and thread to finish it off!  So the entire project fits in the bag perfectly!!!!!
