11  Family Circle 1988 Advent Calendar (complete w/ photos) in Winter Holidays by rabbithorns on: January 07, 2007 04:39:13 PM
Not fancy but I made this in 88 (89?) when me son was just a toddler. It's from Family Circle and every year the elves fill it up. The bag has 24 ribbon loops which are a big pain in the but to tie tiny wrapped things to...good thing elves have tiny hands!  Wink

It's just felt handsewn to a muslin background which is looped over a wooden hanger and tacked across the top. Santa has button eyes. Very simple.

12  Pixie and Felt iPod Cozy in Completed Projects by rabbithorns on: December 27, 2006 08:48:49 AM
So hubby got a new (old refurbished) iPod and apparently I get the old one. Don't know if I want one, but made a cozy anyway. It's an old felted wool sweater, hand-dyed cotton velvet tubes for straps, filled with carded wool. The pixie head came from a Denise Warner doll. There's a slit in the bottom for docking/charging. I might do some more embroidery along the top and maybe more beading, but this is what I did yesterday. The second picture is a bit overexposed. The colors are really very rich.

13  4 Velvet Pincushions in Completed Projects by rabbithorns on: December 18, 2006 08:56:15 AM
A friend saw the black one - very gothic and hard to photograph - and the green one long ago and wanted 2 more for Christmas gifts. I made the blue and red ones yesterday. Thought I'd show them before she gets them.

The black one is made from an old velvet dress and there's spidery flowers embroidered all over it. The beads are black pearls and other beads. There are silk flowers and feathers on top. Hard to see I think in a picture.

The red one is wrapped in a faux jewelled necklace and the playing card is just a paper (not even cardboard) mini Queen of Hearts card.

The Dreams label on the green one is from a clothing label and on top is a silk brocade yo-yo. The blue on has a Chinese coin over the loop on top and an old earring, beads and funky yarn.

All are made from old velvet clothes. All are stuffed with carded wool. I never use fiberfill. Wool is better on the pins. Pincushions are one of my favorite things to make.

My husband swears these links will work, but I'm a web idiot and they are not showing up in the preview so who knows?

14  Sweater Doll from Japanese Pattern in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by rabbithorns on: December 31, 2004 07:07:58 PM
Posted this in the international area also, because I was looking for the pattern and it was in a Japanese book. Another craftster from Japan helped me get the book. Thanks to her I was able to make this really cute doll. It sits up by itself because it has some adzuki beans in with the stuffing. It's made from a secondhand sweater.

15  Japanese Sweater Doll - made in america in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by rabbithorns on: December 31, 2004 04:24:35 PM
Thanks to Nordic, I finally made a sweater doll. Actually I made it a few weeks ago, but we didn't have a digital camera, etc.

But now, it's here!

I have a few more cut out and will be making a rainbow of them.
