1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Crochet in Fiction (Movies, TV, Books) on: April 23, 2008 11:18:34 AM
In Lars and the Real Girl, there are a few crocheted items and one of the ladies crochets (its in the scene where they come over with casseroles and the others are knitting).  It looked like she actually knew how to do it too, and wasn't just faking moving the hook.

If you haven't seen it, you should.  It was marketed as a comedy but it really wasn't at all.  It was very sweet and heartwarming!

Oh my gosh, I've been wanting a poppet so badly lately!  I can't sew at all, but I never even thought of crocheting one!

If you write a pattern, I'm totally going to make one.  =)

Are there any online how-to's for this sort of thing?  I'd love to give it a try some time.  I might just buy the book you mentioned, haha.  =)

6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Festive St. Patrick's day hair hider *pic heavy* on: March 17, 2008 07:21:23 AM
Oh, if you do write up the pattern I'm totally going to make one!  I love the shamrocks!  (And I'm Irish enough that I could get away with wearing it even after St. Patrick's Day!)

H.  If the pattern will work with my trusty H hook I don't bother using another size.  =P
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: What was YOUR first project? on: February 29, 2008 01:24:40 PM
The first thing I remember doing is a granny square, but I know we started with chains and did some other things first.  I was 8 when I learned how to crochet, though.  The only reason the granny square sticks out in my memory is because this girl in my class (Amanda.  I even remember her name.) had this amazing and huge pink granny square at the end of the week and mine was all lopsided and smallish.  =P

My granny squares are better now!

But seriously, scarves are a great first project.  I just taught my friend to crochet and that's what I'm making her do.  =)
