1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / 40s costume party help on: April 18, 2008 07:16:28 AM
So I've been invited to a 40s themed costume party, so it's in October, but, call me overzelous. I want to get started on ideas now...
I couldn't decide between going for a army-uniform type thing or full-out Ava Gardner-style satin gown.
I was actually thinking of combining the dress with an army style jacket and/or hat, seeing as I have so much time, but I'm having trouble finding good pictures on the net for inpiration on styles, particularly what type of upper body such a dress should have. I also need pictuer of forties women's army jackets. I've found a few but none show the whole full length front.

Does anyone know any good sites for either pictures or patterns for either of these types of outfits?

All ideas welcome!

Thank for you help

Something I designed & made a while back, only just took pictures:

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Ocean Punk Pixie Dress on: September 05, 2007 01:48:36 PM
I made this dress for my little sister during this summer, based on the fact that she loves sea creatures and thinks she is a 'punk' (She's eleven.)

It laces up at the side (Not too great on the pics cos of the distortion from the pose) but actually is a pull on over the head manouvre, the ribbons are purely decorative!

The whole dress is two layers, a black base and translucent voile-type thing overlaid and gathered at the side.
The skirt is similar to a few tutu tutorials I've seen knocking about around here, then overlaid with the black fabric.

(I didn't make the leggings.)

4  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Pirate Project on: June 01, 2007 05:30:38 AM
Here's my GCSE Textiles project, the them i chose was 'Pirates' and I made a shirt, bandana (with beads hanging off it in JohnnyDepp-fashion) and belt as my final design, and here it is:

The shirt was inspired by Maeve from The Adventures of Sinbad, this old show I used to love,

The Bandana was inspired by Jack Sparrow from POTC

and the belt was completely my own invention!
