22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Discreet and unique? on: January 31, 2008 02:38:21 PM
Ok so basically- I have a gf but her mom (and mine) doesnt know that we are together and I would like to keep it that way. But I would love to give her something for valentines day. I have no idea what to do. Se is difficult- she doesn't like any kind of sweets really. So does anyone have an idea for something kind of discreet I can make her?
she likes coffee, we bellydance together, jewelry is cool, I'm making her a card....um IDK what else...

Thanks-
Rebecca
23  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / MLT wrap on: January 17, 2008 02:24:22 PM
Well I live in a small town and I looked at the newspaper today and there was actually a recipe I wanted to try for once. I thought I would share the recipe for everyone else to enjoy since it looks amazing.

ingredients:
4 large portobello mushrooms, sliced
2-3 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt- free steak Seasoning(this could probably be left out)
salt-to taste
1/2 cup low fat mayonnaise ( or veganaise)
2 tsp fresh minced ginger
2 c fresh baby spinach
2 small tomatoes, thinly sliced ( I think grape tomatoes would be good)
4 flatout wraps

you can use a grill or the stovetop
1. Brush portobello strips w/ olive oil & sprinkle w/ steak seasoning and salt.
2a. If using grill cook on hot top for about 10 minutes until deep brown then turn over and cook another 6-8 minutes until golden.
2b.If sauteing: heat olive oil in lg non-stick skillet over med-high heat. Add a snile layer of mushrooms & cook w/o stirringfor about 5 minutes or until mushrooms are red brown. Flip and cook for about 5 minutes until they are the same color on both sides.
3. While 'shrooms are cooking, warm tortillas on the grill in foil or lightly grill for 20 seconds. If cooking inside, warm wraps in a dry skillet. Stir mayonnaise & ginger together and divide among tortillas, spread to cover; top with spinach and tomato slices
4. When mushrooms are done, slice in to thin strips and sprinklew/ more steak seasoning if desired. Place mushrooms on tortillas and roll into a wrap.

24  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Banana Smoothies..yum on: January 13, 2008 07:47:25 AM
I found this recipe in a local cookbook not too long ago. I was craving one today and thought I would share them here.

Ingredents:
1 1/2 c milk(or soy milk)
1 lg banana
1 T honey
1/4 tsp vanilla

Blend all ingredients together and serve. It makes enough for at least 2 glasses of it so I just store the second drink in the fridge since no one else here likes them...

the go great wih the vegan banana oatmeal cookies on here.... Grin

So I did becuase I have nothing better to do. I posted the purse(tote) a while back but had to get more ribbon for the handles on the diaper bag. I finally finished it. I hand sewed everything. I used a tutorial on here, if I find it I will post the link...
I added a button closure and a pocket on the inside and outside.
So-here it is...

28  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / guitar bag on: December 13, 2007 05:32:53 PM
ok so I decided to take on a new task and make the bf a guitar bag for his bday (in march). I have time but I need to hurry up and figure it out.
It is a flying V so It won't be round.
Should I measure it or lie it on a piece of cardboard/paper and trace it for a pattern?
Also do you think hand sewn would be ok or should I try to find a sewing machine to borrow?

Any tips?
Thanks-
