21  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / rainbows on: June 11, 2012 05:17:17 AM
Rainbows make me  Cheesy

so my first stabs at yarn dying had to be rainbow. I used kool-aid and a microwave . I used this website . for my first go round i didn't really write anything down or have any plans.I took my hank and twisted it, then made a swirl in my baking pan. flooded the yarn in rainbow colors. I think all the twisting is why i have white spots in the first set. then I did the brown yarn and just poured the rest of the kool-aid into the pan and hoped for good things.

If I can remember i just put one pack of kool-aid per cup and got it as close to the top as i could. which made very light colors. no plans so i just used colors and flavors i had, i also used food dye for the flavors i didn't have.

brown yarn

white yarn

shawl made with the yarn

For my second time i planned i found a sale 15 for 2.00. i wanted to get 30+ packs but my boyfriend was questioning my need for the 15  Roll Eyes

so I used only one cup per color. and i wrote done how i got my shades
for colors red- tropical punch, orange- peach mango and four drops of red, yellow- lemonaid and four drops yellow, green- twenty drops of green and five yellow, blue- blue magic, purple- grape and four drops of blue
i used plastic wrap and the whole counter to lay out my colors carefully.my wrap was not tight so a few colors leaked onto each other while cooking but things happen.

and the scarf i made with it

man i need more white yarn Smiley
thanks for looking.

24  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / never ending beads- loads of pictures on: March 30, 2012 02:10:34 AM
When my boyfriend and I went to visit his mother,  she told me about all the jewelry making stuff she got in Mexico for 15$ . Then she asked me if I could make items for her with the stuff she brought. Heck she even brought a kit with the pillars and findings. So i said OK, I'm always up for a different craft. Little did I know how much I could make with all this stuff? I've been working on nothing but jewelry for the past couple of day here is what I've made. I also used some of the beads and things I had at home.

i just laid the beads out on the mat that was in the kit. once it looked pretty i choose the chain that looked best with the bead set up. And cut and linked. I like the look of metal and beads so there arent many just beaded items that Ive made.
And I haven't even used up all the items she gave me

28  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / scroll lace scarf and hearts on: January 24, 2012 03:38:20 AM

pattern Scroll Lace Scarf by Ysolda Teague
yarn Knit Picks Telemark in  aubergine

so i worked the lace while on breaks and lunches at work. and i worked on the body at home. it took about two weeks doing it that way. so i would say that you can finish this in three days . I'm not really sure what i did but i made this uneven.  I did mess up on the lace bit a lot forgot to do yarn overs and k2togs here and there. and oh how i hate picking up stitches.

Oh did that yarn bleed. i washed a item for the first time and I'm glad i did. or all my clothes would be discolored. and i read that some on washed it with out it getting felted which means i can toss it in the wash, yay.  and i blocked it out, I'm trying to block out my lacy stuff. i used dress makers pins and the floor. and poor love stepped on a pin. which means that he was walking on my scarf, but i felt bad for him first.

pattern Hearts by Anna Hrachovec
yarn - random colors and thin sizes
needles- size 2

each heart took about a half an hour. i was planning on making more but i got bored with them and only made a handful. there cute and all, but there is a faster way to make them and i will find it later.

29  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / flower headbands on: January 24, 2012 03:28:41 AM

pattern Headband with Flower by creativeyarn
yarn- random color and sizes
hook F

I love a good flower hair thing. and the fact that these tie means that they will fit even the most fluffy hair. I made all the flowers first so the headbands i tried to match up as much as best i could.
the flowers can be moved up and down the strands of the headband. each took about a half an hour or so
30  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / mini books on: January 21, 2012 10:57:39 AM

mini books i used this tutorial . i used a holiday gift box one side made all these books. I used different types of paper: constitution, card stock, printer. for the covers i used a few magazine and scrap booking paper. I decided not to use ribbon because i only have purple for some reason. so you can see the stitching on the sides of the books. i don't think it looks all that bad. I think it took me like six hours to make all of these. I broke one needle trying to go through a book with to much card stock. over all i would say that it was a fun project.
