11  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: September 02, 2005 09:53:09 PM
Posted this in quilting, but applies here too----

Quiltersand sewers of all levels-----It doesn't matter how good you are or what materials you use, but please help---beddding is needed desperately--some left with nothing but the clothing on their backs. I have posted on my journal all the info you need; this is info from the director of the International Quilt Festival. The only requirement is a desire to help!

Please note too--NO BABY QUILTS, as there are too many being sent--adult and child size is needed, as often they are being used as sleeping pads too.

14  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Crazy Quilt Question.... on: July 16, 2005 09:31:43 AM
Small world! Thanks for the kudos too  Kiss

Quilting is where i "started" with textile art, 21 years ago while pregnant with my son. I left it for a period of 14 years and am back at it, incorporating it in my work again.

Crazy quilts are the best!

Could you sew several together in a long strip and use as bands on the hem of a skirt or coat?

You could also just do some stitching on the top part to make it look quilted without the bulk.
17  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help...do I cut off the selveges! on: July 01, 2005 05:22:20 PM
I would stitch it with the selvedges on to match the repeat as much as possible, then grade back the seam allowance as selvedges are often woven tighter than the body of the fabric and can create a puckered look otherwise.

Good luck!
18  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Not sure where to post this tutorial on: July 01, 2005 05:19:44 PM
A. I'm not sure of the etiquette and
B. It does apply here because it can be used on Artquilts, if any are interested.

Will post just a link then:

19  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: OMG! mermaid scale quilt on WhileYouWereOut on: July 01, 2005 05:18:14 PM
I've seen this done with shoulder pads. You need to collect a LOT of them--ask friends and family to save, hit the thrift store, rip out the ones from stuff you have. I have a friend who made one this way and it was awesome!
