1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / reconstructed tees to baby goodness on: November 26, 2008 09:02:54 AM
a couple of weeks ago my friend sent 5 old tees and i was able to repurpose four of them for her baby. (who should be arriving shortly!) here's what i made:

i actually did redo all five, but decided the shorts i made would be way too small for the little guy. (now my dog is sporting a pair of black undies.) i think everything is pretty self explanatory. onesie, bib, hat and tag blankie. i was quite surprised at how well everything turned out. my only complaint that made reconstructing difficult: the weights of some of the tees. a few were made of that paper-thin t-shirt material that is extremely hard to work with. thanks for looking.
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / roman shade for the powder room on: October 12, 2008 07:54:49 PM
i finally got the roman shade finished for our master bath. made completely from scratch. i installed all the hardware, including a stop pull and corded it all myself. yes, i am patting myself on the back.  and - double bonus - it actually works. i did buy a pattern to make it, but in the end i didn't use it. the only thing i needed were measurements. which i'm sure i could have found somewhere on the web. behold!

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / bag for mother on: July 19, 2008 10:18:34 AM
my mom was here last week and asked if i could make here a tote/handbag. i started while she was here but decided to finish after she had left. (didn't like her looking over my shoulder). here it is in all it glory!

i got the fabric on the discount table for $10 for 2 yards (a steal for amy butler fabric.)

there were a lot of firsts in making this bag. it's the first time i've used piping. which turned out great. first slit pocket on the front and first time using batting. i think she'll be happy when she receives it.

thanks for looking!

4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / misfit child on: May 17, 2008 02:54:03 PM
i did a little more t-shirt surgery this week. this time an xl long-sleeved misfits tee. as you can see it was extremely large.

after:

the sharpies in there for scale. i used a pattern i purchased at walmart for the hoodie with a few modifications. it called for pockets on the front but i opted out and made it more simple. i've got one more skull left from the original sleeve that i'll put on the front as a patch. i was quite proud of the zipper installation, i think i'm getting the hang of the zipper foot. but i screwed up and ironed over it causing a little meltage on the shirt. not sure if there's a remedy for that or not. other than that, i'm quite satisfied with the end result. thanks for looking!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / dropkick dress on: January 30, 2008 05:01:17 PM
inspired by vegbee's tutorial i tried my hand at a little t-shirt reconstruction.

it's made from two shirts and some plaid fabric from my stash. unfortunately i don't have a cutie to model it for me.

thanks for looking!

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / mp3 pouches on: October 09, 2007 01:02:07 PM
my sister-in-law asked me if i could make a few pouches for patients in her dental office. they have mp3 players they let patients listen to while getting crowns done. patients set them on their chest while getting treated and on more than one occasion they've slipped off and hit the ground. i made these two little pouches with velcro closures to help remedy the problem.

the striped one is from a fabric remnant i found thrifting and the red/orange one is left over remnant from a set of ikea curtains.

it only cost me $3.
