I'm also allergic to wool but I can knit with some blends. As long as it's at least 50% not wool, I can use it. There are so many other fibers out there: soy, corn, cotton, linen and bamboo. Just check out the links above and got to websites like WEBS or Knitpicks Good luck. I know you'll find something. Also some of the newer acrylics aren't so bad
