1  Re: pleated purse and strawberry shortcake jordy! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by kash on: April 10, 2005 05:57:56 PM
hey all!
okay, i decided i'm *finally* going to post a tutorial- esque thingy. so sorry it took so long, and i really hope people are still interested! its really not that complicated anyways. also, sorry about my crappy pics, it was the best i could do lol!
you will need: 2 rectangular pieces of fabric in the dimensions you want your bag, one large rectangle (roughly 3 times the width of the purse and half the height, its better to have more than not enough!) , fabric for the straps, and lining fabric (same dimensions as the body of the purse). the last label says lining.

sew the body pieces together on 3 sides (the longest sides were vertical on mine, but you can make it however). make sure the good sides face inwards when you sew!

now for the pleats. there are a million pleated skirt tutorials on craftster, so i'm just gonna summarize. hem the bottom of  your strip of long fabric first. then, lay it out, fold , iron and pin you pleats in place (you might want to measure, or you can just eyeball it). then sew them together on the sewing machine. sorry if you're still confused, i don't know how to explain pleats properly lol.

okay, this is the tricky part! place your bag with the right sides facing outwards. now, place the pleats with the the wrong side up, with the "bottom" of the pleats towards the *top* of the bag and pin the pleats in place all the way around. sure the pleats are low enough to cover the bottom of the bag when flipped right side around. sew the pleats to the bag, but be careful not to sew the bag together! i don't know how ghetto your sewing machines were, but it was quite a struggle for me!

okay, hard part over, now for the lining. just like you did for the lining, put the good sides together and sew around the 3 sides. place this inside the bag.

To attach the lining,  fold the hem of both the outside and the lining fabric towards each other. (i tried to illustrate this with a side view). then, sew over the fold (you might wanna sew straighter than i can draw!)

after this you're basically done! add your zipper or velcro and handles the way you normally do (you may do this before you line it). sorry if its confusing, this is my first tute! feel free to ask for any further explanation!

4  1 bag 2 purses (pix fixed, sorry abt that!) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by kash on: January 15, 2005 12:34:48 PM
after sucessfully posting my t-shirts i gained the confidence to post my bags too lol. the first one i like the best even though i hardly use it lol... i just cut the bottom off of a pair of those terrible super- flared pants we used to wear back in grade 8 eww lol. ya, its pretty self explanatory. i made a matching one for my friend with the other pant leg lol:

k this bag..... i had turned a pair of pants into capris n used the bottom part to make the bag. those jeans didn't go to waste lol. umm ya it looks good from far away but up close its kinda ugly.... lopsided n badly stitched. oh well it adds character lol.  the patches i added to make it more interesting... kinda a mistake but ya, more character...

k, this last bag i made using jordy's tute, i was gonna use it for school but i dont cuz i dont think the strap will hold up and also the shape didn't turn out quite as i expected. i was gonna add a zipper but got lazy.

ok thats all, i dont really use these because i feel more obliged to use the things i pay actual money for lol...... ya thats all, thanks for looking!

5  2 reconstructed tee's in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by kash on: January 15, 2005 12:20:11 PM
hey, this is my first post, so sorry if the pics dont show......
k this was a boring tshirt i never wore, n one day over the summer when looking for excuses to not practise piano i turned it into this lol:

okie, this shirt, basically the same story but i struggled a bit more lol. i ended up using the tutorial on oh my stars (i think, it was kinda a long time ago n i dont really remember lol)...the colours are a lil skewed cuz of the camera, the "k" in the corner is messed too.... but that was my fault lol. i just cut out a k from the fabric n sewed the pink behind it.... but it got all messed up lol

k thanks for looking!
