1  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Homestar Runner Cake (w/new pix--img heavy!) on: April 19, 2008 09:06:35 PM
This is SO AWESOME!!!!!
I kept hoping I would see the Poopsmith (he took a vow of silence, you know) and then I thought, maybe it's better if the Poopsmith is not on your cake.  With his job, well, you know...
I bow down to the master.
AMAZING.  And fun.

This is exactly why the Poopsmith was not on there. Because if I had to do him, there'd be a required pooppile, and well, we're not going there... Wink

Key west, two questions:

1) Where did you get your fondant

and

2) How difficult was it for you to roll out?

I helped my friend with her wedding cake a month ago (ides of march, actually) and I actually had bruises on my hands from trying to get it rolled out.  Does this make me a pansy?  Cry Undecided

I made the fondant (Marshmallow Fondant!). I used http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm and it was pretty easy.

As for ease of use, I found that it was easier to use after heating it for a few seconds in the micro. And using cornstarch instead of the crisco'd counter made it much less likely to stick in the roll-it-out portion of our show. Also helping was the non-stick rolling pin (I picked it up for less than $4 at the Wal).

I don't think it makes you a pansy at all! I tried no less than 10 times to get it rolled consistently. And there's flaws, of course, but I did not photograph them. Smiley And the flaws made it easier to eat without feeling like it was being wrecked!

Of course, living in a nice beach house that far from civilization, you'd need a Shell Phone to stay in touch...

(Can't believe I beat ya'll to that lame joke...)

Thanks everyone for your awesome comments about the cake.

It was a huge hit at the thing we did for Bill. And it was tasty, too. The MM Fondant does a really amazing job at keeping the cake moist for several days.

Sent the pix off to the H*R creators, too.

Ok, so I already commented once, but I showed this to my husband and he was wondering if you sent pics into the Homestar runner creators? They would totally post them on the site! Best. Cake. Ever.

Not yet, but mainly just because I had to get the rest of the pictures off my digicam, onto the external HD and such... but I will be sending them along. Smiley

How cool!  Do you have any more pictures of the characters around the bottom?  We love Homestar...

I do, but I have to hook up to my external drive before I can upload them. my teensyweensy hard drive has no more room. Smiley So I'll be posting them later tonight. individual pictures of the characters!
