At the late night, double feature, Picture show......

Can you guess what I did Halloween night?

Here is a reference pic.

This took about 8 hours, 2 yards black velvet, 3 yards of gold Lycra, 1 1/2 yards black pleather, 1 1/2 rolls of black thread, 13 feet of wire, 1/2 a roll of batting, wig, a white stick on wizards beard (cut in two and used for part of the wig) and a whole can of hair spray to style the wig (let me tell you I was pretty nervous when the lady next to me got out her lighter for the "there's a light" bit).

Being that I live in Alaska and the temp fell to -1 F on Halloween night (better then last year's -22 F) I decided black leggings would be better then lace panties, garters and fishnets Wink.

Well my Niece is going to have her 1st baby, a boy. I was told early on that it didn't matter if it was a boy or girl that a duck theme was going to be used both at the shower and in the nursery decor so I set to work on a Diaper Cake, Diaper Wreath, Booties, Burp Cloths & Bibs and a Silky Blanket below are pictures.

Diaper Cake (5 layers + the topper, approx. 180 diapers)

Below are all the homemade items:4 pairs of Booties, 7 - Burp Cloths & 4 - Bibs and 1 -  Silky Blanket

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Marie Antoinette Inspired Costume (aka Like Mother Like DD) on: November 01, 2008 01:00:50 PM
Here is my Marie Antoinette inspired costume although the main objective was to make a costume that "matched" my DD's wal*mart purchased Marie Antoinette-ish costume.

This costume took 9 1/2 yards of pink, 3 yards of gold, 1 1/2 yards of pink lace and SEVERAL yards of pink ribbon and gold trimmings (found at my local value village for $3, yea me!). I have almost no material left! I was shocked! I thought I had bought in much excess.

The wig was purchased but I did all the embellishments myself. And I also did the hair decoration in my DD hair as well. Also purchased was the key necklace and earrings.

Next year I will focus on making the proper hoops and pettis to go under this dress.

Now on to the pictures!!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Saloon / Can Can / Dance Hall Girl - pic heavy on: August 27, 2008 09:43:15 PM
Saloon / Can Can / Dance Hall Girl, whatever you want to call it. I have made costumes for my DD for the last 2 years for the GoldenDays celebration. Everyone dresses in period clothes and there is a big street fair and parade.

The first year (2007) my DD won first place in the kids costume contest for girls and was overall winner for boys and girls. Here is her costume for 2007 "Blue Birdy"

And this years (2008). They didn't hold a contest this year for kids, but we did receive many thumbs up from the parade floats as they passed and from others. "Pink Kitty"

7  CLOTHING / Clothing Sewalongs / Sweeney Todd-a-long ("By The Sea" Bathing Costumes) on: June 22, 2008 05:59:33 PM

So I watched the movie Sweeny Todd and fell in love with the bathing costumes in the “By The Sea” Song. And have decided to recreate Mrs. Lovett’s outfit for a local festival coming up in July.

I posted in the clothing help section (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=239111.0) a while back about needing help with this costume and got lots of response so I decided to open this project up for a craft/sew – a – long. I would love to have others to craft this with please post if you are into it!

Originally I was going to make this for myself but now I only have time to make one costume so this will be for my 3year old daughter for the kids costume contest (she won last year and has to defend her title). Last year I did a Saloon / Dance Hall Girl costume for her. This festival is for the 1890-1915 time frames only. Yes I know the movie was set much earlier then that but Bathing costumes didn’t change too much over that time really, and I don’t think anyone will know anyway. I couldn’t find a pattern in my DD’s size so I am going to draft my own.

I went to Joanne’s today and bought fabric and notions so I think as soon as I get the pattern worked out I am ready to start.

Wish me luck and Happy Crafting

8  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Sweeney Todd---"By The Sea" on: April 08, 2008 10:24:58 PM
So I just rented Sweeney Todd  and have become infatuated with the bathing costumes that are worn during the song, "By The Sea". I have a local festival coming up in July and costumes are the rage. I would love to make Mrs. Lovett's bathing costume. But.....1) I have no pattern 2) I have no stills or reference pictures. Can anyone help me out with this? And does anyone want to do a sew-a-long?

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Rock Band / Sing Star / Guitar Hero Swap? on: April 02, 2008 08:50:59 AM
Anyone up for a Rock Band / Guitar Hero Swap?

I was a diehard Guitar Hero player but now I can't stop rocking out to Rock Band. Anyone else with me? I want to give in and feed my inner rocker. I am thinking like guitar pick jewelry, stylish ripped tees, spike necklaces, stickers for guitar cases, cozies for drum sticks, fingerless gloves, band t shirts and more...what do you think?
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / Easter Tutus, Crowns, Wands, Ears on: March 23, 2008 01:04:14 PM
